Just started listening and I'm on "Ridin'"...

I like it, and I can feel it'll get better (especially because I really like "You Should Know"), but some of the Kendrick influences are hard to ignore.

EDIT: And I just got to the beginning of "Sassy" and the beginning sounds like Kendrick/Black Hippy on Jay Rock's "Vice City"

Come on, Rap... :francis:

Yeah but 9th Wonder said after PIMP like a butterfly came out they were going to follow that blueprint. She has nothin to lose. The female Kendrick

She gets propped up cause she's a woman. She isn't nice like that
I feel where you're coming from.

Like...she's not WACK....but she aint movin me. Her flow is mostly mundane and when she tries to "spaz" like on Ridin, it still doesn't do much for me.

She's getting propped up because:

She's a woman
She's a woman who doesn't rap about sexual acts
She's affliated with "real hiphop" like 9th/Jamla and whatever the fukk....

To me, she's Skyzoo/Fashawn territory. Honestly not wack and I should like them, but everytime I try to listen, it just doesn't work out. They've got 0 personality outside of being a "dope rapper"

Her music is just boring to me. Boring as fukk to be exact.

Skyzoo is a good comparison, cause he's solid, but he has no charisma so I never was big on his music because it's just so monotone sounding.

I fukk with Noname a lot more than Rap, and Noname has a laid back and mundane style, but her music is far more interesting to me... and her shyt just sounds better.

Like, I call Drake plain bagel rap....the same gotta apply to these folks too.

Plain salad rap (since this is supposed to be "good for you")....no dressing, no croutons, no chicken, no fruit....nothing.

That's not a good reason to mimic him vocally, though.

Production and content is one thing - flows and inflections is another.

Don't get it twisted, ask @TheDarceKnight I'm a big Rap fan, but it just irks me knowing that for 8 projects she's been herself and now she's letting little bits of another rapper seep into her style.

I gotta dap you for the honesty. Trying to figure out what I think about this album still. it's very dope, but I know what you mean.

I'm almost done with a first listen.

It's good. I think I'm going to like it more after a get to digest it, but it's just that feeling of every time you're rocking to it, then you hear a line, a stutter or a flow of another rapper and it just take me out of it for a bit.

And it's not like "paying homage", it's more like "I'mma switch the flow on this one!" and all I can think is "Yeah, but it's not your flow."

I'm nitpicking, I know, but I know she's capable of being wholly unique and it's just a little disappointing. But not enough to completely write the project off.

Going into a 2nd spin now.

What did you think of Crown?

I liked Crown. It's too early for me to compare, but right now (and maybe because it has more songs) I think I'm going to prefer this album.

Charlamagne really hyped it, and it's nowhere near as "perfect" as he said, but it's really good. It's basically Crown: The Album.

A little fuller, a little more polished, and with a little more focus.
