Only listened to a handful of his songs but I've always been fascinated by arguments (some would call them conspiracy theories) that powerful people wanted to ruin his image and he really didn't do things he was accused of. That's a crazy story if it's true. His story is fascinating

Russell Simmons used to smoke angel dust when he was coming up. Combined with another drug, he ended up looking much older than his actual age.
Plus, it was a different time back then. Angel dust was probably a lot easier to score back then and it was considered a cool drug like cocaine around the same era.
