Why would he just make that up though? It's such a silly thing to make up, especially when it can be checked since all those people are still alive and work in the industry in some capacity. I'm sure he got calls from editors telling him he was gonna get 6 mics.

ultimately it didn't happen. maybe they were considering it, but it would mean they'd have to reevaluate their whole rating system

I haven't watched the video yet cos I'm at work but I would assume he's saying it as an exaggeration. Like "shyt was so good they had to give me 6mics! " not that he made it up but just that he's saying it was really THAT good

No he was being literal. He even says I'm not exaggerating. He said they heard 80% of the album in like summer 95 because the album came out like a year and half late. He said they heard Nature of the Threat and was gonna give him 6 mics. He said you can even contact the editors who worked for the Source at the time

Beats. Flow. Mic presence. Style..Illmatic wins in all those categories. shyt lyrics too imo..just listen to Nas vs Ras Kass on the Wake Up Show freestyle. Nas was just flat out easier to listen to on a track at the time..

3 Mics and the same for his next album. Fukkin source ruined his career. 6 Mics in 95 would have shut hiphop down and Ras Kas would probably be a household name today

So he ended up getting 3 Mics. And even if Soul On Ice was pushed back a year it was definitely a good enough album where he didn't deserve to take a 3 mic hit. That was at the very LEAST a 4 Mic album.
