Rate this anime day 11: Dragon Ball Super.

7/10 due to rehashing two movies in the first two arcs and shyt animation up until 6v7 tourney. Otherwise a dope anime. They seem to hit they stride with the TOP arc and giving other characters shine and expanding the scope of the universe. The Moro arc from the manga will make or break this shyt for me.

I gave it 6 for various reasons.

It has spotty animation.
Plot holes galore.
Power levels that make absolutely zero sense.
An even more dumbed down Goku.

Super is way more toned down than DBZ too. No blood, gore, etc. There's no real sense of tension in this show either. With the introduction of Beerus and Whis they'll always be around as a fail safe like they were in the Goku Black arc. A lot of the story arcs were disappointing too. The first two arcs were shytty rehashes of movies we had already seen. The Goku Black arc started off good but the wonky time travel and the ending ruined it. Not to mention the retconning of the potara earrings

The Multiverse tournament had some good fights but again, there was a lack of tension. I felt like nothing was at stake because none of the characters seemed to take it seriously. Not to mention all the shytty characters from other universes that were wastes of space that contributed nothing to the storyline.

I continue to watch this show out of nostalgia for DBZ and it does have some enjoyable moments which are mainly the fights. But being honest and objective this is an average anime at best

Super plots are very straight forward tho. Z had more suspense and twist and turns in every arc that made shyt sohh interesting. The moments I like most from it is the slice of life moments in between arcs. It was cool seeing your favorite characters live regular lives doing goofy shyt and just kickin it. Honestly I wish super was mainly about that with a lead up to a big arc and end the season but I know I’m in the minority on that

Not at all, the only reason I gave it even a 5 is the SoL moments of the show and completely agree with that should have been how the show played out.

7. Not enough Future Trunks. Stakes weren't really felt s much as told.

I'm not going to vote out of respect, but to be honest, I have a hard time getting really into anything Dragonball-related post-Cell. I wasn't crazy about the Buu saga, and from what I've seen, Super seems to be more of the Goku and Vegeta show for the most part. I miss when guys like Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, and Tien actually mattered. Is it worth checking out?

This is exactly what I came in to say. I miss how real DBZ used to be. Even the OG Dragonball had more bite with it's violence and pervy humor (I'm not even trying to post some of Roshi's JBO antics here, lol).

DBZ had the GOAT violence back in the day though

I guess my other issue is that these characters have already been through everything.
They're as strong as the gods now. When the characters are this powerful, it limits the kinds of stories you can tell.
They've already gone out to space and come back. They've all died and come back to life at least two or three times.
They're all grown now, and their kids are grown.
All of the dope iconic villains are either dead or reformed. (I don't buy into the idea of Frieza working with the good guys, dude is way too evil for that.)
...and no matter what happens, they've always got Beerus and Whis on standby, so the stakes don't feel as serious.


It feels like the series is watered down, like there's nowhere left to go with these characters IMO.
