I was there for NBA All-Star weekend…

The place has an East Coast vibe in its architecture (the hills, the amount of theaters, Victorian architecture, abundant corner stores) and density although it’s nowhere near NYC. I expected more foot traffic there’s nothing like NYC. It’s still undoubtedly West Coast (custom car culture, weed culture, palm trees, relaxed vibe) and there’s a whole lot of Spanish architecture with red tile roofs which is also very West Coast. The city is small but beautiful although very dirty and smelly in parts.

It’s the worst homeless situation I’ve ever seen. Especially in the Mission and downtown areas.

I didn’t notice the lack of black folks like that. My Airbnb was in the black part of San Francisco (Bayview) coincidentally. I stepped out on the strip near the house a lot of nice black murals. Also, it was All-Star weekend so there were likely a lot of black tourists from across the country and black folks from the greater Bay Area there which could be throwing off my perception. The city was diverse very Asian (of all types) overall and in some parts very Mexican.

I had food at La Taqueria—probably the most bland, flavorless chicken tacos I’ve ever had in my life and the burrito was better but nothing to write home about. I was gonna check out El Farolito but it was dirty in front of it and stunk plus cash only. La Taqueria sucked and it’s supposed to be a reputable spot had a line out the door. California people need to stop trying to stunt on OT people with the Mexican food and weed. shyt is literally nothing special had much better Mexican food and gas on par in NYC.

There was a spot named Brenda’s French Soul Food that was superb.

I’ve been to New Orleans and this place was better than Creole food I had there. :wow:

I went to Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge the typical tourist stuff I found the nightlife bland and I struck out on events shyt was packed because of the All-Star weekend. I didn’t get to make it to Oakland didn’t have time but I’ve only heard and seen poor things and they lost all their sports teams. There also didn’t seem like there was much to see or do there. I didn’t find SF prohibitively expensive to go out in…NYC and DC is more expensive (to eat out and move around in cabs), rents and homeownership is another story.

I fukked with the self driving cabs out there (Waymo, Jaguar I-Pace) shyt was dope :russ:

Gas prices insane in Cali…EV’s are taking over. I enjoyed the weather it was cool the whole time 60’s and 50’s.

I didn’t see any gay shyt…people were friendly, there’s a culture of outdoors fitness. The city is dope despite its flaws that All-Star weekend was one of the W.O.A.T.’s though.

Overall SF is hella chill…I give the city like an 8 out of 10 probably in the second tier of American cities with DC, ATL, Philly.

Shoulda went to Sacramento instead. How long were you in SF?

Objectively Frisco is one if the greatest US cities, undisputed Top 5 if all things considered. It basically is DC, just DC more black, SF more Asian and white...

But it's near the bottom of top cities for black people...

I'm not a weed smoker nor a huge Mexican junkie (besides loving good carnitas), but objectively Mexican and weed are better in California fam 🤣...

I understand why people make East Coast inferences with Frisco but I hate when they do, it's authentically Californian all the way. The only real thing people can point to is some of the architecture, besides that, nothing about SF is even remotely East Coast...

My paternal grandma was born there and grew up in Fillmore and there's a ton of black history there, I have an emotional connection and kind've a love/hate relationship with it. It could be so much greater!

Absolute worst homeless problem of any big American city...

SF is basically Central LA...

I always thought the SF hate was some coli bullshyt. It’s one of the great American and North American cities. Hills, Weather, Palm Trees, culture, vibes, cuisine, beaches. But the coli: “Bbbbbbut where the big booty Latinas!?”

That French Creole food probably came via the great migration. Louisiana ppl who went to the bay area back in the days. :wow:

You got chicken at La Taqueria? lol tripping. They're known for their steak. You ate that wet chicken which disgusting in my opinion.

El Farolito is a hood staple. Known for their Super Quesadillas

Brenda's is not better than New Orleans food lol It's bland. If you been to N.O. it ain't fukking with Marrow's.

Nightlife does suck though.

Objectively, SF is a great American city. Arguably one of the most unique and it definitely punches above its weight based on size.

Subjectively, by and large, it’s just not it if you’re a black person.

Outside of work, some live events and going to restaurants, I’m not really in SF all that much.

I think there’s a certain type of person SF would really appeal to, not me.

EDIT: I’m more of a city guy and I keep saying I should leave Oakland and live in SF for a year but all my black friends that lived in SF dipped to Oakland after a year or so. There’s just something about the city that’s tough to hack.

Yeah fam I did get steak on the burrito. It was aight. The chicken was wet and flavorless. The beans were flavorless that shyt was ass. Worse than Taco Bell.

I had went to Farolito but it smelled like shyt in front of it and it was cash only. Taqueria was much more active too.

Brenda’s that shyt was on fukking point :noah: and far from bland. The BBQ shrimp with the toasted French bread and the grits and crawfish were 10/10. I’ve been to NOLA twice and tried several of the most reputed Creole restaurants. :hubie:

Brenda’s is better reviewed than Marrow’s too on Google in overall ranking with a lot more respondents. My favorite spot in NOLA is Muriel’s which is very good but every course hit at Brenda’s split a fried chicken with the bros too.

I was there Saturday to Monday it was a quick trip for the All-Star weekend/Presidents Day weekend.

Oakland would have been do-able but Sac type out the way for the time I was there.

But I def wanna check out the Bay/NorCal again some day. Bro that came with me swears by San Diego as the best Cali city and favorite overall to visit in the U.S. and this dude travels for work often.

Oh shyt you weren't there long enough to really do much 😂...

Definitely come back at some point and give yourself time to see the major spots in The Bay (SF, SJ, Oakland, Wine Country); and The Valley (Sacramento, Chico, Redding) and Tahoe. I guess this is really multiple trips back if you ain't just got unlimited time and money...

San Diego is most people's favorite California city 🤣 I've actually never been myself, no burning desire to go either. I have a 29-year old brother and 33-year old sister who were born in SD and grew up back and forth between there and Sac because they mom from there. My brother lives in Sac again and is a junkie but swears by SD and wants to go back. My sister left both Sac and SD alone for LA then went to Arizona and now swears she's never coming back to California, so she don't love SD as much as our brother lol...

I've mentioned this before, that in my travels I've never met anyone from the East Coast who disliked Sac or had a mid experience there, and at this point I've met a decent number of people who've seen Sac for one reason or other. It's not one of the first cities that jumps to mind for most East Coasters/Southerners, and most the time there's a Cali city they like even more------>but I've never met anybody who been to Sac and really had a negative opinion, it's almost always they are surprised by how much they enjoy Sac...

Sac gets shytted on by coastal Californians because, it's California, there's an abundance of beautiful, popping areas...

Gotta make that Sacramento trip one day!

Imagine being black and shytting on Sacramento, but riding for The Bay which has continued to displace black people at record numbers for a generation 😆 that tech scene you talking about is not even 5% black, most black Bay Areans not working in tech, dumb dumb 🙄
