Space is the Place
Yesterday we looked at one of the two Missouri HBCU's, Harris-Stowe University, which gained an average score of 7.6.
Now we go down to Nawlins' where we have one of the most unique HBCUs in the country. The only Catholic HBCU, founded by St. Katherine Drexel, nun and daughter of a wealthy Philadelphia financier family (who Drexel University is named for). It originally started as a high school and became a four year college in the 1920s. A natural place for a Black Catholic university due to the area's French heritage, it has long had a strong connection to the church (Pope John Paul II spoke there in the 1980s) but has also recently become famous as a literal factory for future Black physicians. For decades it has send more Black people to medical school who graduated to become doctors and is now exploring its own medical school.
