We last covered Stillman College of Tuscaloosa, Alabama with an average score of 7.25.

We now head back to North Carolina to look at Saint Augustine's University, a small but historic university in Raleigh. Another early Reconstruction college, it was founded by Episcopal clergy in 1867 to help educated freed slaves. It has been primarily a liberal arts university but has long had a health department founded originally as a school for nurses. It was also the first HBCU to have its own commercial radio and TV stations. It is co-located with the Black neighborhoods of Idlewild and College Park in Raleigh.

In sports it is outstanding in NCAA Division II track and field having won 16 national championships in that division, the second highest of any NCAA Div II school.

Also in the fall of 2021 it wiped the tuition balance clean for its students using financial aid and gifts from the previous two years.

St. Aug. *sigh*

The Coli knows me as an NCCU Eagle for life, and I am, make no mistake about it. But my HBCU experience actually STARTED at St. Aug. I was at the Aug in 2001-2002, when it was still called St. Augustine’s COLLEGE, not “University”. It was the first year of them getting their football team back, and they had to build the team from scratch. At every position. Man..what a time I had there. There’s just too much to type. A great first year of HBCU experience. I still have 4 lifelong best friends that I met in that one year at the Aug..all in the infamous Atkinson Hall(I later moved into Latham). St. Aug had a heavy Island population, mostly Bahamians, but we all hung together(Bahamians, Jamaicans, Trinis, Bajans) and called ourselves the “Jooks” crew. We were very popular on campus. We were deep, had money, and with numbers and money comes girls and “power”. We threw parties, fought with jealous nikkas, and just had a blast. Speaking of fighting, there was a lot of fighting back then between St Aug and Shaw U. Shaw is only about a 20 or so minute walk from St. Aug(I used to walk it all the time). Two historic Black colleges close enough to almost smack each other. And with us being the two only HBCUs in Raleigh we found ourselves in the same spaces very often. And when St. Aug and Shaw U students are in the same space, we fight. That’s it, that’s just how it was. So many wild memories of that year at the Aug man. I could type on and on for hours. I’m in the parking lot at work right now so I’m kinda all over the place with this post. Got nostalgia like a mf man. The water balloon fights, going to NC State parties at the Talley Center, smashing so many chicks on campus, the beefs, the wellness center being a guaranteed hot spot to meet a new chick. And the food in the cafe was actually GOOD. Again, my one year at St. Aug doesn’t compare to a single year I had at NCCU, the two schools aren’t even comparable, but it was still a very impactful year for me and my life. I’m going to stop here though. I’m late, and I could sit here typing for another hour. I miss those Falcon days though.

Man I don't even know where to start but let me start rambling.

I attended St.Aug from 2000-2005. Initially I was headed down to UNC-Greensboro for basketball but when the coach that recruited left i made the change to St.Aug on a whim.

UNC-Greensboro was a school that pretty much had everything. No issues registering for class, clean campus, no real drama...it gave me that college experience I used to see on TV growing up as a kid. But in the back of my mind I always wanted to go to a HBCU because eventhough I grew up around black people (family, friends) i didn't grow up with black people. The town i grew up i. Was very diverse with everyone but black people

So I look at St.Aug like a family member that im proud of but I know they can do a lot better Iife so I'm about to just say whats need to be said...

Mannnnnnnnn

St.Aug...respectfully. I love my school I truly do but they left a bad taste in my mouth as soon as I got there. For one I'm on a basketball scholarship and they basically killed my desire for basketball. For one basketball players didn't have access to the gym whenever they needed. Im like how can I work on my craft with these restricted gym hours. I played for Coach Hargrove and dude was bias towards players from DC and it was blatantly obvious. Besides from my dude Patrick Pope, lil Jay, and one other player some of the other dudes from DC shouldn't have been on the team at all. So that was very frustrating.

However playing for them was a nice experience especially when the coaa tournament started. The amount of women I messed with just because of the tourney was :ohlawd: . Plus the CIAA tournament puts on a great show. People dressed to the nines, a bunch of after partied and a variety of women. Also when I was there track basically controlled the school. They had a lot of great athletes that went onto compete in yhe olympics

But let me get back to St.Aug...the same ish Deion Sanders and Ed Reed said can be said for this school. Rumors of money going missing happened a lot. People losing out o their financial aide, dropped from classes without an explanation, multiple break is on campus, o coed dorms, girls were only allowed on the weekend from 8-12pm. Almost got kicked out of school because I had a girl in my room too late. Speaking of being kicked out. My first week on campus there was a party at one of the dorms where these girls agreed to have a train ran on them. I didn't participate but they came back saying they got raped and dudes got kicked out.

Anyway, like I said before this school is like family to me, one because it's a pretty small school so everybody knows everybody. If you weren't a athlete, you were either a part of the band or a part of a frat/sorority. A lot of the people that attended the school were from the south or from the dmv. I had a few run ins with some cats from DC because they were on demon time sometimes. The school had a rash of break ins and I got a bunch of my throwback.jerseys stolen..wound up being some dudes from DC that I actually knew. Nothing happened to them though and I couldn't risk losing my scholarship because of them.

St.Aug has some fine looking girls as well especially the blue chips:steviej: but with a school so small a girl that is a 6 at nc state, Duke, nccu would be a 8/9 at St.Aug.
Parties kind of lacked though because of the size of the school but since we had surrounding schools it really didn't matter.

The food was tenable but it was basically the same food every week. The fried fish was definitely rocking though and when we ate I. The Cafe it was like being with family. A lot of memories were made there lol

So yeah I love St.Aug but they could be so much better. I havent been back since I graduated but maybe one day I will make it back down to Raleigh. I miss that school and the people I met there because it felt like one tight knit but dysfunctunal family. I pray for them to stay open and I contribute money to them every year but I expect and want better for them.

So in closing im giving my school a 5. The experience at St.Aug can't be compare to the Howard's, Hamptons, Spellman of the world but its aunique school that provides a great learning experience about what to accept and what not to accept. If someone asked me if I would recommend a student to go there I would have to ask them what kind of student they are and if they dont mind not having the best of everything when compared to other schools. Much love to my Falcolns...one day ill make peace with my school but it won't be today:mjlol:

Very interesting agreement signed. I've suggested that HBCUs establish pipelines from state CC systems. Benefits all parties involved. But have never heard of systems from different regions of the country making connections like this. This is great.
