nah man she hollers too much for my liking and her songs just ain't that good...she hit when that neo-soul movement was at it's peak and rode that wave to success

y'all gonna argue that she can sing better than lalah hathaway (who is finer than her too BTW)? :stopitslime:

Joy, pain, tenderness, sass, frustration, encouragement, hopefulness, weariness, all in one voice. Pretty much one of the true avatars of the essence of soul, from classic to neo. Yes, I'm biased where she's concerned.

Lion rating: strong 9. Only reason she's not 10 objectively is that I don't see her hitting those Mariah high notes, so she arguably doesn't have perfect vocal range.

I rate Jill an 8. Won't wow you with runs and such but will enchant you with that sultry smooth voice. Great range and besides Beyonce, is the only one who can flow into an operatic voice seamlessly.

Her music is timeless to me but no certified classic albums in my opinion. Jill was about 3 years too late. I wish she'd had came out in 95-98 when Neo-soul was peaking with D'Angelo, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. probably would've seen more success. She is under celebrated as an artist and heavily imitated.

While not released as a single, the album track "He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)", dedicated to Scott's then-husband Lyzel Williams, became a particularly popular song at Scott's live and televised performances. It also received a club makeover as dance remixes of the song gained popularity and were later included on her subsequent 2001 Experience: Jill Scott 826+ album. Gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard and her daughter Kierra also covered the song with new gospel lyrics and ad-libs on the former's 2003 album The Heavens Are Telling. Beyoncé included the song as part of a medley with "Dangerously in Love 2" during her Beyoncé Experience world tour in 2007. The song was also covered by the German pop trio Monrose on their 2006 DVD Popstars - The Making of Monrose.
