If you're dumb enough to believe both countries were in a "competition" then you're probably dumb enough to believe in these rap beefs.

Well seeing as they were involved in a cold war for nearly 50 years which involved proxy conflicts(Vietnam, Afghanistan, independence movements in Africa, etc) and almost had a nuclear war(Cuban Missile Crisis) then yeah I tend to believe it was more than a competition.
