Go deeper. I told my wife if she didn't get a job we were gonna go bankrupt and be forced to sell our place. Lo and behold, she's workin 40 hours a week now.

You'll have to have this conversation with her over and over again for it to sink in. Use the most dire examples you can think of that you can play as realistic. Arguing for a few months is fine if it leads to a situation where you get what you want for your family longterm.

Have you tried sitting down and telling her what you told us here? Since a kid is involved, I would just give her an ultimatum. I'll tell her that she needs to get her shyt together and start doing something with her life or else I'm out. If she cares anything about you then she will listen and start busting her ass. If she doesn't then well you know what you need to do.
