It was a good batman game. But remove batman from the game and it was mediocre gameplay wise.
:why:

Than it wouldn't be batman. Arkham asylum introduced detective mode which has been copied to death by other ips, and the combat system was revolutionary as well. I'm sure a lot of games wouldn't be great if u took out the main character and attributes that go well with their characteristics.

Was it though? I dont ever remember expectations being high. Previews and early impressions were always poor to luke warm. I don't ever recall it being overly hyped.
It was pretty hyped. I don't think people expected it to be a 10/10 game, but it being a 6/10 game surprised a lot of people. I ended up buying it anyway, but it fukking sucked

it was still hyped as hell
of course, it was a AAA exclusive with pretty graphics. but beyond 'the machine' and fanboys, I think most people were kind of skeptical about what kind of game it would be. pretty much after the first time we saw any gameplay, people were concerned about how much it seemed to pull you out of the action for a cut-scene

regardless I don't think the 'hype' was anywhere near Batman AK

I agree with everything but the fighting mechanics. It was exactly the Batman experience, I felt like a forced to be reckoned with when I could take down guards with guns and disappear into the shadows, very menacing, and very much a true Batman feel. Everything else...meh. I didn't like the overuse of the tank, specifically the wench...dear zeus the fukking wench game is too strong. The crime scene investigation was clever than before adding unique feel to it, but the game needed more substance. They dropped the ball on the "co-op" aspect and no boss fights :mjlol:. So they sucked with boss fights before so badly, that they didn't even feel like doing them again :russ:.

Then there's the PC fracas...Its seems to me, that Witcher 3 has it in the bag :blessed:

Nah, didn't The Order come out this year? That's gotta be the biggest disappointment.

Naw. Ppl had low expectations for that game the minute they saw it. It was very nice spec wise but you could see the stale, generic, third person cover shooter all over the gameplay. Knight was suppose to be the pinnacle of the Arkham series and I felt it was just flat

The fighting mechanics were fine. I wasn't asking for a new system. If it's not broke don't fix it. My issue was outside of the fear stealth takedowns there was nothing new combat wise. No real new gadgets or combat moves. And they removed the sonic rings which were key in luring enemies to creative takedowns. I was standing by wooden walls and windows praying enemies would walk by and it rarely happened

Batman didnt revolutionized either of those things, and they are both shallow gameplay mechanics regardless.
