JMT style rappers kind of took over that underground void imo.
JMT...:snoop:

Stoupe was a real dope producer for minute...he fell off long before he left the group though. I tried to bump that Psycho-Social album knowing damn well all those biblical references went over my head :dead:

Legacy of Blood was when I stopped taking them seriously. Violent By Design was their best work.

Yeah when Jus left the group you had only Vinnys Islamic rants to hold u over. Their dope production made them tolerable however. When Jus can back he changed his style, and even though I didn't hate it, it was a step down from his previous delivery and lyrical skill. They can still drop some dope cuts but jus left again so now it's just Vinny spitting redundant raps. That last album was maybe their most forgettable effort. VBD is definitely their best shyt. Classic underground grimey shyt. Much more digestive than Def jux.

I always thought Yak Ballz was nice, his producer Mondee had some fire. WTF happened to him and Cage? I was a fiend for underground back then, checking sandboxautomatic.com weekly for the new releases to find on MP3. But listening back now, so much of it was basura. I always thought Natural Elements were really nice, but they were around back in 95 so maybe that's not a part of this conversation.
Natural elements had nothing to do with that whole movement...that would be like mentioning l da headtoucha, smooth the hustler, b1, half a mil, godfather don etc...completely different styles and far better mcing

Cage is a great mc. Hell's Winter is an album that's still really ahead of its time - the beats were really futuristic and the lyricism was all storytelling, no pretentious using big words for the sake of big words filler shyt.

El-P and Cannibal Ox are still cool. Cunninlynguists are dope. Also MF DOOM. Despite having a weird voice, Eyedea was a dope battle rapper / freestyler.

But yeah there was a lot of weak shyt during that era. The 2000's were an ehh decade for music in general really, things didn't really pick back up until 2010 after MBDTF dropped imo.

Pyscho-Social was awful, never liked it. Listen to how bad this sounds :mjlol:

You're definitely right about VBD being their best work. GOAT tin foil hat album. Stoupe improved massively between Pyscho Social and VBD. Vinnie Paz was such one dimensional mc. You've heard one Paz verse you've heard them all. I liked him on an ironic level though. Last JMT album I heard was Servants in Heaven, didn't even know Stoupe left. Seems he wasted his prime on Vinnie Paz, same way Khrysis wasted beats on wack ass Sean Boog. :snoop:

Cage is nowhere near great breh. Beyond having a poor rapping voice and not riding beats well, son has some of the most corny, embarrassing music in the history of the genre (i.e. most of the Movies for the Blind album). I don't see how anyone who isn't a depressed/angry/troubled adolescent can listen to songs like 'Suicidal Failure' and 'The Soundtrack' without cringing. Cage also has one of the WOAT albums of any genre (Depart from me). I haven't listened to Hell's Winter since around the time it came out, but even if it still stands up that's still just a "One hot album every ten year average". Dude regressed to the mean and went back to being wack straight after.

Lyrically, he really wasn't bad but his voice was :trash:

And I'm not sure why folks in here are giving Copywrite a pass when all that tough guy punchline battle rapper shyt went out the window when he got knocked out on multiple occasions on camera :pachaha:
This still goes for me...
