I was thinking about this today as I watched 8 Mile for the first time in a long time today.

I think Eminem is tapped out now. He's conquered it all, especially since he came back with both Relapse (which was a throw back to his Slim Shady LP days) and then with Recovery (depending on who you ask) with the whole theme and new outlook and perspective. Breh has done it all and in a major way with being one of the most popular emcees ever in Hip Hop.

But really, what else can he rap about at this point?

He's basically done. At least to people who value original, hungry, real, raw, and creative lyrical music. He could make some garbage song and still sell. But he is far past his prime. I prefer my drugged up, angry and hurt early em, over anything later in his career. I dread to think about how bad it will get in the future. He's just so far removed from what made him great. It happens.

Isolating yourself does that. This is the problem with taking a large haitus; it saps your creativity.

Yeah, I agree with the whole he can sell anything now, simply because he's "Eminem" and he's a brand. But those drugs really did take a toll on dude. To be honest, I was shocked that he was able to rhyme as well as he did on Relapse after all of the drugs he was doing and Encore is a testament to that.

Yeah, you know it's interesting how back in the day Eminem was so big he didn't need to do features on singles of other artists at all. When he came back with Recovery he was featuring left and right. It's just interesting to even look at how the game changed even for him after like 5 or 6 years away from Hip Hop. But the drugs were the main factor of his creativity being zapped.

How about ditch the annoying high pitched nasal voice, drop the shock rap lyrics, mature his sound, and come with some real conscious Political hip hop. Dude would surprise alot of heads

Content wise recovery was something new from him, it was just trash:pachaha: em is done.

Yeah. It would've been interesting if he could've rapped like he did on Relapse but kept the content he had on Recovery. Because really Relapse was just a rehash of what he'd already done on the Slim Shady LP. It was nothing new, it was just cool to hear him sounding a bit hungry again after Encore.

Recovery was a step into a bit of new direction for him in terms of content but his rhymes were weak. :bryan:

Exactly.

He could just drop some shyt with him doin' lyrical gymnastics. He's untouchable with the rhymes. Just some dope beats and rhymes would do the trick.

I agree w/ above poster, he can do a concept album. But besides that, I think its time for Em to hang it up. I dont want him to fall and put out garbage. He gave us everything. He gave us his childhood, his mother, his relationship, his daughter, his humor, 50 cent, the death of proof, his drug addiction, and his rehab. From an artist standpoint, he has on of the best careers ever. I just cant see what else he can do really. D12 is done, he was never the best at putting people on because he was too famous.

My preference is the drugged out, angry, still hurt from getting cheated on Em. His voice just had that emotion. His voice doesnt have any emotion anymore. But its crazy at how many sides of him there is. Dude is definitely one of the best to ever do it.

I agree with you on the whole " ditch the annoying high pitched nasal voice, drop the shock rap, mature his whole sound". Now as far as him going political Hip Hop, I don't see it. I mean, he's done it as far as "Mosh" but outside of that, I don't see him or his label wanting going in that direction.

I see what you mean, but IMO it also depends on how someone like himself keeps busy during that hiatus.

Is he working with his artists? Traveling? raising his kids? etc...

The thing with him....because hes drug/alcohol free, that rules him out from a number of settings that may or may not inspire him. In that sense I would agree that the hiatus hurts someone like him more then others.

wasnt Relapse a concept album tho?

true. it was about him coming back and dealing with being sober. all of his albums kinda had a theme going on, most notably eminem show imo. what he could do is focus on like someone said earlier - politics/social issues (like nas's untitlted) or tell a story about someone other than himself (not hiphop, but like "american idiot" or "tommy").
