The outro on JID's last album was supposed to feature a (brief) sample of Hiipower. Top refused to clear the sample despite the history of not only both labels being friendly, but the fact that both are on Interscope. Not to mention Cole produced Hiipower lmao.
It's worth noting that Reason has a single/video coming on Friday and this falls in line with the weirdo, fake drama promo TDE has done before. Where they fake an argument in order to go viral before a single drops. Maybe that's the case here so I hate giving this any energy. But if it was bullshyt I'm not sure why they'd drag Dave Free into it. End of the day this label has rotted while focusing on Kendrick and SZA. Now Kendrick is gone and I'd imagine SZA can't wait to leave.
I'm not a Reason fan. He's generic as fukk to me. But they've ruined his career, just as they ruined the other artists. They can complain about "microwave music" all they want. You can't let artists sit for 4+ years unless they're big. Drake could chill for 5 years and be fine for instance. Kendrick went plat and had a huge tour despite the 5 year wait. Same with SZA. But your entire roster can't do that. Ab Soul waited 6 years to drop an album. Q and Jay Rock are at the 4-5 year marks. Sir hasn't dropped since 2019. In SiR and Jay Rock's case, they were coming off very successful albums. They should have dropped two years later to capitalize. Instead, all that momentum is gone. As we see by Jay Rock's two recent singles flopping. It's over for that label outside of SZA.
