Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

both of these are in the same lane as The Hunger Games. City of Bones is getting the movie treatment this August [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guCp0JiSdt0"]City of Bones is getting the movie treatment this August[/ame] and will probably blow up like The Hunger Games did. Vampire academy is a bit more heavier on the romance than The Hunger Games. its more like what Twilight should have been.

If you were into Hunger Games you should try Divergent. Just started reading it now off a recommendation from a friend. Pretty dope so far.

I didn't think it was worth reading the books after watching all the movies. I've seen the all the Swedish films and even the American adaptation. Still worth reading?

I don't know. I haven't watch them. I've just been reading the books. There is so much controversy and top secret shenanigans surrounding Lisbeth that the books have been very enjoyable to read. I don't know how closely the Swedish films mirror the books but, if the American version is any indication, you've essentially read the first book. The book adds more details about the supporting cast such as Berger, people at Millennium, and Lisbeth's hacker friends.

Initially, I started reading the book after watching the American remake. I was reading the books in anticipation that they would make a sequel to the American version. It wasn't until midway through the second book I found out the version I saw was actually a remake of the Swedish film and they already had a movie for all three books. :mindblown:

I wasn't feeling the second book too much. The author has a tendency to go overboard with details. I think I know what kinda coffee every person in the book likes by now.

And what the hell do I care about Lisbeth finding out some math problem that has nothing to do with the story :shaq2:

I also don't care for what the author did to Salander's character. bytch became superwoman. Can take down bikers, solve ridiculous math problems, she's rich as fukk, can take bullets to the head. Give me a break :shaq2:

I've started reading George Pelecanos recently. He was a writer for The Wire...wrote about 10 episodes. He's written some for Treme too.
Read somewhere that he is adapting this as a movie.

If you have an interest in High Fantasy I can recommend Robert Jordan's Wheel Of Time series, my all time favorite fantasy series. It's 13 books long though so its a bit of a dedication but its straight piffery for Fantasy buffs

:myman:

The ONLY problem I had with that series is the length of time between volumes. Had to re-read every prior book to catch-up, but the whole story was......:wow: Found out Jordan was dying around book 6 or 7, so I understood what the lag-time was about.

If you liked Jordan, I'd suggest The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I just recently picked up The Omen Machine, 13th book in the series, but it's been a while since I read Confessor, so starting next week, I'm gonna start back from Wizard's First Rule and read the whole series again.

Been reading Sword Of Truth since I was 15:myman: finished The Omen machine last year.

I prefer Jordan over Goodkind but Goodkind is a dope read.
