I browse it for entertainment purposes, along with being generally fascinated with race relations. Not to mention I like to know what the other side is thinking and the best way to find that out is to check out forums and comment sections of any online news article. Sh!t is fascinating to me.

Same here I lurk st0rmfr0nt and dude is right the mods step in quite and straighten out those old cacs who use the n word and other forms of extreme racial hatred. They know even if they hate minorities a site full of race hate plain to see is a bad look some news outlets actually have lurkers who stay on st0rmfr0nt and report anything asap and save every screename they see for future proof. Huffington Post is probably their biggest lurker and we know the bullshyt Huffington post likes to print.

There is definitely bigotry and racism on reddit but it's not on every subreddits. A few like /r/personalfinance, /r/diy or /r/science (or askscience) are really interesting subs that should have more shine. It would be like thinking JBO is a representation of the Coli. There may be like hundreds of subreddits on this site with own mods and stuff. There are only a dozen on the Coli, think about it.

Not just on reddit but in real life, it seems I have to personally remind "BUT MY FREE SPEECH FREE SPEECH" types that the free speech constitutional protections mean the government can't prosecute and persecute those for speech and even our government hasn't been consistent on that front in our history (i.e. McCarthy). Private organizations and individuals have no obligation to protect your free speech.

I'm a new reddit user, it was funny reading some thread on the confederate flag where dumb posters were getting crushed by historians. I haven't seen racism over there yet but maybe it's cause I haven't been there long enough. Even when I see some bullshyt some one quotes them and tries to argue with them. Not as bad as the coli made it out to be.

It's because you have to seek it out...if you look for topics in which race can be involved, you will undoubtedly find racist asshats posting there

Reddit is a huge website with millions of posters and like thousands of subreddits (due to how easy it's to create one). There are a LOT of racists and bigots as a result and they often pollute some of the biggest sections there, notably news and politics, and there is a certain number of subs dedicated to spewing hateful shyt. On the flipside, there's a lot of interesting subs there (geography, history, general knowledge, tech..etc) that I often vist and they're fine.

Even if Reddit was able to clean up house, those bigots would go to another website. The internet is very large

• Thread carries on like this for a while
• Until someone says something over the top
• That posted is greeted with smilies and sarcasms
• Whataboutism ensues
• Thread dies a quiet death in under 40 posts.
