All the NFL does is recycle coaches
I can dig it. 1st of all this is Bruce Allen's 1st time picking a HC for the Redksins. He wasn't the one that hired Shanahan, that was Snyder before he gave up the reigns of control as GM (something Jerry Jones would never do). The problem was when Bruce Allen got hired as GM was he never had true control as a GM, Shanahan had exclusive control of almost everything and shared GM control with Allen in spite of Shanny having the FINAL SAY.
Everybody is expecting or so-called wanting some big name veteran coach to take over, but guess what? IT DOESN'T WORK for the Redskins and time and time again it has proven he doesn't work throwing some big name Coach. That's what Snyder mostly did. The Schottenheimers, The Spurriers, The Gibbs, The Shanahans. That's what Snyder always did instead of thinking which coach is the BEST fit in running his team. And I am personally tired of that.
Jay Gruden never been a head coach in the NFL before, but has a proven positive track record of a good to great OC and helped changed that Bengals team around to be 3-time consecutive playoff squad, something the Redskins at the very LEAST needed badly. You cannot fault him for the fact that Dalton turned out to be a bum, because look at how the rest of that offense operated under him. He deserves a chance. Surely a better improvement from the provened overrated Shanahan.
I also see what Bruce Allen is doing which is trying to rebuild an atmosphere that Tampa Bay had when they hit their Superbowl stride. And he got connections with all those coaches he intends on hiring and/or keeping, to include Haslett which is my ONLY disappointment with the whole ordeal, but I can see partially why. With the cap violation fuccked it up to where they weren't able to bolster and rebuild that aging defensive squad, Shanahan overstepped his boundaries where he made Haslett to change up his defensive scheme to something Shanahan wanted set up. So, Haslett never really had full reign on the decision of how that defense should be ran in the 1st place. I know that's a weak excuse, but I can understand with the cap violation over with and a new coach who had worked with Haslett before, as a reason why he's given a pass. That said, I still don't like it.
But overall, this move is one of the better moves, I cannot realistically see any better coaches willing to go there to the Redskins with the exception of Gregg Williams, but of course his rep wll forever be TOXIC and therefore really not an option unfortunately.

Actually the Bengals added by subtracting. Hue Jackson is a very good Coordinator, he will have the Bengals in a run heavy play action pass type offense which not only suits Andy Dalton better but the Bengals offense as a whole.
The Redskins are idiots, they could have hired way better candidates than Jay Gruden. They should have waited till the playoffs played out and pick out coordinators from better teams. That being said he is still an upgrade from Shanahan who I think is the most overrated HC of all time.
