Oh okay that sounds like a cool class to build one's confidence and challenge ideas which you guys are already doing. Now should a person really need there deity during those times?? since i'm not superstitious like that I would say no but to the believer yea:yeshrug: I have a co worker that taps on a table three times before he eats his meals lol and then there are people that pray quietly. I look at both of those acts as kinda weird but to them one is giving thanks to a deity and the other is calling on the universe or nature for good luck. I think both of them should have to right to do it as song as it's kinda kept to themselves. I think when we think of people praying its always of somebody talking loudly but they can pray quietly so they don't disturbed people. Now your classmate obviously can do a speech against evolution which science invites since you can test and show proof of things, but teaching creationism shouldn't be in a science class but maybe a philosophy class. I'm actual for teaching a world religion class where kids can learn about the different religions of the world and there history's. I don't know if I would make it mandatory but at least let it be there as on option. Too be clear when I say teach it I don't mean in a sunday school type of manner where they are teaching a certain religion as true or fact, but more of a history type of feel where you learn the core principles and tenets of each faith and who there founders are.
See that makes sense. It's weird though because it's like the pettiest shyt motherfukkers could argue about.

i cant tell, your actions are childish

He doesn't see how immature and petty he looks right now. It's like the main goal of atheists is to complain about religion and how much they dislike religion which is such a big waste of time. Most of the time they can't even do it without mocking people or being hypocritical which is why atheists have such a bad reputation.

At The end of the day people gon believe what they believe....if Jamal wanna bring his rug, let him use recess time or study hall to get his praise on. Susie can read her bible discreetly on her smartphone.the persecution of religion ain't nothin new. I believe it shouldn't be pressed upon the minds of children, but at the same time the USA was founded to escape religious persecutions.

At the beginning of mean streets
People should have the right to practice whatever they want as long as you're not forcing your beliefs on anyone else. I used to fast on religious holidays and Wednesdays and Fridays as a kid my school used to let me so I figure why not. As long as you're not affecting anyone else's learning (environment) who cares.

Lol yea I feel you fam, but I don't think it can be helped. From what I observed from a lot of are brothers and sister that practice a religious faith, there is a strong emotional connection to the faith. When I see somebody who is christian tell me about there god they always talk about the love that there deity gives them and the personal relationship they have with it. So naturally if I tell you I have a problem with somebody you have a personal relationship with, your probably gonna take it personal and get offended. Especially if you been taught this since you were a child, But I think it's interesting that if you bring up another religion they can look at it more rationally since they aren't emotionally connected to it. So yea it's petty but i think people should criticize IDEAS and not attack people. Also people should learn not to get offended off of this stuff and come at it objectively. :yeshrug:
That's my thing (your last sentence) I spoke to my mom about it and she starts questioning whether I'm atheist or not (wtf) and that's what I seem to get out of someone who's religious (or somewhat to say the least) and there's no rational argument against the position that I'm taking, it seems to offend others and in return they question whether I'm an atheist or not. I've got a few sources, 1 being the separation of state and church law which was brought about in 62 (during JFK days) and The 2nd is France and their 2004 ban against religious symbols in schools.

My arguments against it are that it promotes individualism and separation and that the schooling system should be secular. An example that I use is in SC they had a middle school rally in which a Christian chapman spoke to the students saying "if you're willing to accept Jesus in your life stand up". Things like that shouldn't happen, especially around the youth, it's imposing religion upon those who are of either: a different religion or not religious at all.

Do you think I have a decent argument?
