I laugh every time people bytch and moan about remasters on the new consoles.
Mainly because the arguments used to be against said remasters are pretty fukking stupid in their own right.
Bu-bu-bu-but why aren't they making NEW games?!
The original developers who made the game that's being remastered is USUALLY not the ones working on said remaster. The work is contracted to external developers for a quick and easy fee for little work for the main devs and to keep the lights on for the remasters. This is a positive for both sides because the contracted devs are getting funded for work WITHOUT risk of getting closure, it's easy money to add more funds to both teams to A) work on the NEW game you're whining about, and B) the contracted dev who potentially has a new project in the works. BAM. Two /new/ games that you're clamoring for, right there.
Let me give an example: Tomb Raider Definitive, developed by Crystal Dynamics was contracted to United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs.) for the updated effects, visuals and framerate. Now, Crystal Dynamics is working on RoTT and Sleeping Dogs with the additional funding for Tomb Raider: Definitive has Triad Wars (F2P PC game) and Sleeping Dogs: Tokyo Dreams.
There are downsides to contracting. They can be botch jobs like MCC and Sleeping Dogs DE. But 85% of the time they're an undeniable good.
They're just selling the same game at full price! Again!
Again, incorrect. All of the remasters released so far have included all of it's DLC or entirely new content. DmC: Definitive Edition is a complete rebalancing of the game's combat, and adds brand new content altogther. (Think 'Super DmC) The Remasters are usually sold below MSRP as well.
I already HAVE the game, why do I need it again? :scust.:
This is an entirely subjective argument. Some people skipped those games last gen so this is a new experience for them. Some people want a better performing game. Why out these people for the sake of some selfish conquest agaisnt the concept of remastering?
