Remasters aren't bad, and they're gonna exist for a long time this gen. :pachaha:

I laugh every time people bytch and moan about remasters on the new consoles. :pachaha: Mainly because the arguments used to be against said remasters are pretty fukking stupid in their own right.

Bu-bu-bu-but why aren't they making NEW games?! :mjcry:

The original developers who made the game that's being remastered is USUALLY not the ones working on said remaster. The work is contracted to external developers for a quick and easy fee for little work for the main devs and to keep the lights on for the remasters. This is a positive for both sides because the contracted devs are getting funded for work WITHOUT risk of getting closure, it's easy money to add more funds to both teams to A) work on the NEW game you're whining about, and B) the contracted dev who potentially has a new project in the works. BAM. Two /new/ games that you're clamoring for, right there.

Let me give an example: Tomb Raider Definitive, developed by Crystal Dynamics was contracted to United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs.) for the updated effects, visuals and framerate. Now, Crystal Dynamics is working on RoTT and Sleeping Dogs with the additional funding for Tomb Raider: Definitive has Triad Wars (F2P PC game) and Sleeping Dogs: Tokyo Dreams.

There are downsides to contracting. They can be botch jobs like MCC and Sleeping Dogs DE. But 85% of the time they're an undeniable good.

They're just selling the same game at full price! Again!

Again, incorrect. All of the remasters released so far have included all of it's DLC or entirely new content. DmC: Definitive Edition is a complete rebalancing of the game's combat, and adds brand new content altogther. (Think 'Super DmC) The Remasters are usually sold below MSRP as well.

I already HAVE the game, why do I need it again? :scust.:

This is an entirely subjective argument. Some people skipped those games last gen so this is a new experience for them. Some people want a better performing game. Why out these people for the sake of some selfish conquest agaisnt the concept of remastering?

Gamers are just entitled whiners when it comes down to it.

Its the definition of first world problems.

If you dont want the remaster dont buy it. Pretty simple. Theres obviously a market for them other wise they wouldnt keep making them.

i keep saying, this isnt studio greed. 95% of studios can barely keep their lights on. If they have to pump out a few remasters so they can fund a new game then so be it.

Dudes cant see the forest for the trees.

I got no real problem with remasters, I buy a couple from time to time.

Problem is people refuse to understand in what shytty shape the AAA market is in. You got games selling a few million and being considered a failure.

The industry is getting worse every year. Sega just withdrew, what big studio will be next?

There are petitions going to remaster bf3 and mw2 on this gen. Since those two are my favorite shooters ever they need to go head and make that happen.

SEGA didn't withdraw. That was a mistranslation. They're downsizing their ARCADE stuff. Relic, Creative Assembly, and their Atlus branches are still making games as well as their internal groups for shyt like Yakuza.

AAA is a shytshow right now and it's gonna be on a steady decline. Luckily a mid-tier resurge is just what we need right nwo.

Someone who gets it. I can see someone saying they don't see the value in said remaster to which their entitled to but everything else said?? Just dudes wanting to be apart of the outraged internet consumer brigade.

Metro and MCC remasters arguably had more work put in that a good chunk of the other ones. 2033 was completely rebuilt using the Last Light engine which fixed a lot of performance issues 2033 had on PC.

MCC was a long ball that ultimately failed, but the work put into it that DID work is objectively good. We need more ambitious stuff like this than just '1080p/60fps.'

Collection remasters are so good because the effort is genuine.

What pisses me off more about gamers is that they'll swear up and down that this gen is shytty. nikka this isn't even the first year first of all, and you can't TELL me the shyt that put out this year wasn't quality. Yes, there were stinkers. It happens Sometimes--and this is a CRAZY ASS CONCEPT for some people--games flop.

But what about the games that DO succeed?! Sunset Overdrive, Second Son, Horizon 2, Driveclub, D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, Dying Light, Destiny, Killer Instinct, Guilty Gear XRD, Inquisition--ALL GREAT GAMES, most of them not hindered by 10 year old technology. But they're forgotten as soon as they're released. It's fukking shytty.

Don't get me started on this culture of slamming the independents and smaller devs. It's fukking toxic.

I like remasters. I just don't like remasters of games that were released within a year of the ps4 dropping, i.e Last of Us and Borderlands Prequel. I don't have a big gripe for GTA V because they added on the first person perspective for Ps4 version, so it was an actual upgrade instead of just a regular remaster.

I would love to see a remaster of older ps3 games, ps2 games, PSP games (like final fantasy type 0), and PsX games.

I have no problems with remasters as long as it's a game is either 10 or more years old or was originally technically flawed on other platforms.

I just feel like the wrong games are the ones getting remastered while the games that do need a remaster are left suffering on these last gen consoles.:mjcry:

I don't mind remasters of old games. But when you are re-releasing games that are only 3 or 5 years old, I can really do without it.
Remakes like Last of Us and Fable are stupid to me. Then there are games like Res/Evil which are remakes of remakes... come on already.

If they want to remake Chrono Trigger or Twisted Metal 1 or Blast Corps or something... go right ahead. But remaking 360 games for XB1 or PS3 games for PS4 is lame.
There are games that are amazing that are 10, 20 years old. Remake Zelda 2 or something...

Rule of thumb, if its new enough that the people who own it haven't even lost the manual yet, it doesn't need a remake.

That's a bullshyt, idealistic philosophy.

First of all there needs to be a line that clearly defines reboot/remaster/remake. Reboot is a 're-imagining' of the series, like DmC or the new Tomb Raider Remastering is a simple up-port that improves performance and framerate, along with adding new content. Remakes are rebuilding the games from the ground up due to direct desire or engine issues of the previous game.

We were in a generation that lasted longer than every other generation before it. 10 years. 10 years of pushing flabby and sick specs to their breaking point and releasing poor performing titles at the cost of it. Once we got out and moved on to the newer tech OF COURSE the devs are going to want to express interest in improving these games that were fukking awful performance wise last gen.

Sure. There can be remasters of old games but the issue lies in either the developer actually wants to do it, if it's notable enough tot ake a risk and make it and not let it bomb sales wise and is it enough to build off of in the future. Games like Killer Instinct's reboot did successfully in the niche it sold itself for, and reviving kusoge garbage like KI was a HUGE fukkING RISK. MS is taking the same risk again with Phantom Dust (lord knows why but I am contempt.)

Another issue: devs and publishers don't archive their tech. Square has lost a good chunk of the code for a lot of it's RPGs including Chrono Trigger. This is a problem that is being rectified with help from sites like GoG. It's a start but it simply isn't enough.

You'll see the remakes, the reboots and the remasters. You'll see the latter more than the former because it's safe.

It's just typical console wars crap. Let it had been a remake of Ryse for xbox and they would be singing.

Most of the remasters I've never played, so it doesn't bother me at all.

Oh yeah, Phantom Dust will definitely pay off.
