That's a bullshyt, idealistic philosophy.
First of all there needs to be a line that clearly defines reboot/remaster/remake. Reboot is a 're-imagining' of the series, like DmC or the new Tomb Raider Remastering is a simple up-port that improves performance and framerate, along with adding new content. Remakes are rebuilding the games from the ground up due to direct desire or engine issues of the previous game.
We were in a generation that lasted longer than every other generation before it. 10 years. 10 years of pushing flabby and sick specs to their breaking point and releasing poor performing titles at the cost of it. Once we got out and moved on to the newer tech OF COURSE the devs are going to want to express interest in improving these games that were fukking awful performance wise last gen.
Sure. There can be remasters of old games but the issue lies in either the developer actually wants to do it, if it's notable enough tot ake a risk and make it and not let it bomb sales wise and is it enough to build off of in the future. Games like Killer Instinct's reboot did successfully in the niche it sold itself for, and reviving kusoge garbage like KI was a HUGE fukkING RISK. MS is taking the same risk again with Phantom Dust (lord knows why but I am contempt.)
Another issue: devs and publishers don't archive their tech. Square has lost a good chunk of the code for a lot of it's RPGs including Chrono Trigger. This is a problem that is being rectified with help from sites like GoG. It's a start but it simply isn't enough.
You'll see the remakes, the reboots and the remasters. You'll see the latter more than the former because it's safe.
If you think remaking RARE games like KI is a 'huge risk' you are dellisional.
KI, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker, Perfect Dark... Banjo... I already said Blast Corps.... any of the DK stuff...
Anything RARE makes or remakes, remasters or ports will sale. They only catch backlash when they start changing games and toning them down from thier original versions like they did for Conker on XB (which still sold remarkably well nonetheless)
Square hasn't lost the coding to chrono trigger. You pulled that completely out of your ass. They re-released it on the DS with integrated gameplay mechanic changes, and on PS1.
You think when Nintendo redid LttP into Four Swords they are starting from scratch? Thats ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time.
Maybe if a studio goes bankrupt or if there is a fire or something then stuff is lost... but to say 'no one archived it' so its gone thats nuts. Even if that really were the farfetched case, all of the data can be ripped straight from the rom. The files have headers that let you know what engine was used, I mean... have you never modded anything? I have a Chrono Trigger rom dumped on one of my old drives right now. I think I still have Temporal Flux installed. Nobody at square is losing sleep over how to rebuild CT should they want to.

I see what you're talking about. What does this mean for the future? Can you speculate?

for xbox games being remastered.

Mainly because the arguments used to be against said remasters are pretty fukking stupid in their own right.
