Remasters aren't bad, and they're gonna exist for a long time this gen. :pachaha:

That's a bullshyt, idealistic philosophy.

First of all there needs to be a line that clearly defines reboot/remaster/remake. Reboot is a 're-imagining' of the series, like DmC or the new Tomb Raider Remastering is a simple up-port that improves performance and framerate, along with adding new content. Remakes are rebuilding the games from the ground up due to direct desire or engine issues of the previous game.

We were in a generation that lasted longer than every other generation before it. 10 years. 10 years of pushing flabby and sick specs to their breaking point and releasing poor performing titles at the cost of it. Once we got out and moved on to the newer tech OF COURSE the devs are going to want to express interest in improving these games that were fukking awful performance wise last gen.

Sure. There can be remasters of old games but the issue lies in either the developer actually wants to do it, if it's notable enough tot ake a risk and make it and not let it bomb sales wise and is it enough to build off of in the future. Games like Killer Instinct's reboot did successfully in the niche it sold itself for, and reviving kusoge garbage like KI was a HUGE fukkING RISK. MS is taking the same risk again with Phantom Dust (lord knows why but I am contempt.)

Another issue: devs and publishers don't archive their tech. Square has lost a good chunk of the code for a lot of it's RPGs including Chrono Trigger. This is a problem that is being rectified with help from sites like GoG. It's a start but it simply isn't enough.

You'll see the remakes, the reboots and the remasters. You'll see the latter more than the former because it's safe.

If you think remaking RARE games like KI is a 'huge risk' you are dellisional.

KI, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker, Perfect Dark... Banjo... I already said Blast Corps.... any of the DK stuff...
Anything RARE makes or remakes, remasters or ports will sale. They only catch backlash when they start changing games and toning them down from thier original versions like they did for Conker on XB (which still sold remarkably well nonetheless)

Square hasn't lost the coding to chrono trigger. You pulled that completely out of your ass. They re-released it on the DS with integrated gameplay mechanic changes, and on PS1.
You think when Nintendo redid LttP into Four Swords they are starting from scratch? Thats ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time.
Maybe if a studio goes bankrupt or if there is a fire or something then stuff is lost... but to say 'no one archived it' so its gone thats nuts. Even if that really were the farfetched case, all of the data can be ripped straight from the rom. The files have headers that let you know what engine was used, I mean... have you never modded anything? I have a Chrono Trigger rom dumped on one of my old drives right now. I think I still have Temporal Flux installed. Nobody at square is losing sleep over how to rebuild CT should they want to.

Problem is people refuse to understand in what shytty shape the AAA market is in. You got games selling a few million and being considered a failure.

The industry is getting worse every year. Sega just withdrew, what big studio will be next?

:lupe: I see what you're talking about. What does this mean for the future? Can you speculate?

I don't have a problem with remasters. I just think there's no reason to remaster last gen games when the performance and graphical differences aren't that big compared to this gen.

They should focus on remastering PS2 games and the generations before that.

Can you imagine the GTA trilogy running on the RAGE engine with physics and graphics on point? :banderas:

:lupe: I see what you're talking about. What does this mean for the future? Can you speculate?

I honestly think we will see a crash in the market.

The current model isnt sustainable. You got studios closing left and right, sony as a company isnt doing well, the consistent rumours of microsoft selling off the xbox brand and nintendos market share shrinking every year. Wii was an anamoly.

Game budgets keep getting bigger and bigger.

I mean the evidence is right there in this gen. Look how slowly games are releasing. Look at what many former giants like capcom, konami, sega or thq have become. Its not like other studios are rising up to take their place.

People keep saying well this year wasnt that great games but next year :lupe:

Lets be real 2014 was garbage and 2015 is looking garbage too. Theres not enough games and the games coming out are taking zero risks.

I dont know how much longer the current business model will hang out but its looking like its going to implode. Can you imagine how big game budgets would be the gen after this. :dead:

You got fakkits like meach in the god of war 3 thread but at the same time dude bought those remasters of the metro games or the halo mcc.

Lets not forget all the tlou remastered trolling by meach and akademik while being :blessed: for xbox games being remastered.

Truth is people just love selectively bytching when its about a game they arent interested in.
To be fair, halo is different because some of the games in that collection are from 2 gens ago. And metro has 2 games, one that wasn't on last gen either if I remember correctly

I'm all for remasters and remakes like Kingdom Hearts HD and Final Fantasy X HD. Not for PS3 and 360 games getting released on current generation hardware. I still have a PS3 and they're readily available. They need to stop porting last gen old titles you can now find in a bargain bin to current gen systems. We didn't have this problem last generation.

Also, Sony shouldn't really be doing it. Isn't that what they were pushing psnow for?

If PS4 had some good exclsusives then all the remasters wouldn't matter. But being that the new games have all been lackluster its understandable how some PS4 owners would be disappointed with this announent. Especially just a week after learning about the uncharted delay.

As long as said remasters are part of a collection.

God of War 3 remaster not including 1 and 2 is retarded.

Like inception but with remasters. a remaster within a remaster :mindblown: :stopitslime:

edit: that being said id buy a remastered remaster of mgs1-4 and zoe 1-2 for ps4. all 1080p 60 fps. A Hideo Kojima Collection :wow:

TYRONE GA!
I laugh every time people bytch and moan about remasters on the new consoles. :pachaha: Mainly because the arguments used to be against said remasters are pretty fukking stupid in their own right.

Bu-bu-bu-but why aren't they making NEW games?! :mjcry:

The original developers who made the game that's being remastered is USUALLY not the ones working on said remaster. The work is contracted to external developers for a quick and easy fee for little work for the main devs and to keep the lights on for the remasters. This is a positive for both sides because the contracted devs are getting funded for work WITHOUT risk of getting closure, it's easy money to add more funds to both teams to A) work on the NEW game you're whining about, and B) the contracted dev who potentially has a new project in the works. BAM. Two /new/ games that you're clamoring for, right there.

Let me give an example: Tomb Raider Definitive, developed by Crystal Dynamics was contracted to United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs.) for the updated effects, visuals and framerate. Now, Crystal Dynamics is working on RoTT and Sleeping Dogs with the additional funding for Tomb Raider: Definitive has Triad Wars (F2P PC game) and Sleeping Dogs: Tokyo Dreams.

There are downsides to contracting. They can be botch jobs like MCC and Sleeping Dogs DE. But 85% of the time they're an undeniable good.

They're just selling the same game at full price! Again!

Again, incorrect. All of the remasters released so far have included all of it's DLC or entirely new content. DmC: Definitive Edition is a complete rebalancing of the game's combat, and adds brand new content altogther. (Think 'Super DmC) The Remasters are usually sold below MSRP as well.

I already HAVE the game, why do I need it again? :scust.:

This is an entirely subjective argument. Some people skipped those games last gen so this is a new experience for them. Some people want a better performing game. Why out these people for the sake of some selfish conquest agaisnt the concept of remastering?

:ehh:

Repped.

I copped TLOU Remastered because I lost my original ps3 disc and was only like 10% of the way through. The remaster had the DLC and was cheaper and better, so it was a no brainer for me.

GOW3 is an upgrade from 720p to 1080p, so the screenshots really don't do it justice. But I've already beaten GOW3 and the graphics on it still stand up today. So no cop for me.
