The discovery is gone. Buying a cd with my allowance based off the radio single and the snippets at the headphones stand in Coconuts is wild thinking about it.

Tsutaya record store still has these in Japan…it’s one of the stores in the famous Shibuya intersection. There’s a tower records down the street with them as well. Japanese are very nostalgic about 90s electronics…probably bc that was their economical/cultural peak. S Korea got that title now

The Virgin Megastore in Times Square, NYC…was one of the illest places ever to me when I was a teenager.

I wanted to work there too. It was an absurdly big store with so many goddamn CDs, and I wonder how much money it actually made.

nothing like catching the bus to telegraph ave in berkeley and spending my whole saturday in amoeba, rasputin, leopold's and tower :blessed: always discovered dope shyt i wouldn't have found without the listening kiosks, knowledgeable staff or just talking to other customers. also met so many dudes that way :wow:

we also had a virgin megastore in SF, they charged too much for CD's but they had a gaaaaaaang of listening booths

OP this is giving me the feels for Tower Records. I stole so many CD's out of there when I was in college:snoop:

even had em in borders books :mjcry:

I miss Borders so much. I used to lose myself in there. Had one near my old job, whenever I needed a mental break I'd walk a few blocks and zone out :to:

i used to spend my whole allowance and the gas money my friends gave me on CD's :russ:
There was a Haitian dude who had a stand inside a cheap clothing store in my hood uptown.

He sold official promo CD copies of every hip hop album (had the hole poked through on the top corner of the CD case) and mixtape that would drop from the late 90s to the 2000s, and he’d always have the albums on the Friday before the Tuesday release.

So when I was there every Friday, and since I was paid bi-weekly I would budget to save some bread to always stop there on Friday’s on my way home.

The dedication. :wow:

Always preferred Borders over Barnes and Noble. Still got my rewards card connected to my car keys:sadbron:
