I get that ppl may not fukk with his music because of his singing, I mean he's not an incredible singer. But his writing & production he uses is dope af.

These are his weakest traits as an artist.

His lyrics/songwriting is jumbled, but he's too polished of an act to have a jumbled sound and make it believable. The songs are seemingly aimless (On CO), borrowing from boring indie rock sound heavily, which I personally can't stand.

There's a couple songs I can vouch for off of CO but they're few and far between. Sierra Leone is decent. Crack rock is decent, yet jumbled. Pyramids is pretty great. That's about it.

His songwriting could be held in a higher regard, if it wasn't for his usually awful production (on CO). Cheesy napoleon dynamite organs. Songs with no drums to be found (that don't make up for it with songwriting). Spacey while not warranting it. Lacking any soul or flare. Boring.

Have you heard super rich kids? Terrible song. Just awful. That song sums up most of the songs on the album. Boring, aimless, repetitive.

Basically :trash:

:francis: Super rich kids is actually dope, tells a story, great lyrics, great verse by Earl, samples a classic song, you just sound mad at this point.

Don't fukking matter if you know him or any songs, you irrelevant dawg. You tried to discredit him yet his music speaks for itself.

I think coming out publicly, while praised by cac media and people being PC, fukked him up a little bit. People kind of shied away from hearing dude sing about other men.

Like someone else said, at least with Luther Vandross we could pretend he wasn't singing about men. Regardless of how PC this society gets publicly, privately a lot of people just aren't comfortable with the idea of hearing a dude sing sweet nothings about another dude. We like to insert ourselves into the music, be it as the man or the woman in the equation, and once that's no longer doable the music becomes harder to relate to.
.

You saying you don't fukk with Leave Your Lover by Sam Smith?

I'm what some would call a fan of Frank Ocean. I'm neither mad at him or salivating at the thought of him dropping his next project. I feel jumping to extremes is a bit much. When or if he ever drops a second album I'll give it a few listens and it'll either make it into regular rotation, like Nostalgia, Ultra, or I'll like one song and listen to that every so often, like Channel Orange.

Speaking of Nostalgia, Ultra, I've been listening to it a lot lately and even though I really still do love it, it's just not as much as I did when it was first released and a lot of the time after that. There's a lot of cliche "black hipster" bullshyt in it that kinda rubs. I've honestly never listened to a Radiohead song but that would seem like blasphemy to ol 2011 Lonny Breaux.

What if he got Lauryn for the album? I know that's not what you were saying but your post put that thought in my head. And he's just waiting for her voice to return to 90s goddess status before they enta da booth.

I've been listening to Miseducation too a lot lately.

All that said, Nostalgia/Ultra is still one of my favorite albums of the 2010s and I'm not even an RnB fan. Hopefully his next project can be even 80% as good as N/U was.
why are you acting like all his songs are about men?

ppl love hearing him sing about love in general

u dont fukk with prince?
