Frank Ocean is clearly an artist first before anything. I put him in the same class as a Maxwell or D'Angelo in that he makes music at his own pace. I can assure you he has a healthy enough fanbase to bide his time and he's talented enough to :eat: for the next decade at least. This microwave music era has really fukked up a lot of you guy's perception of music.

Now a Grammy (for an entirely new category) means something....but when Macklemore and eminem or any other "culture vulture" wins a Grammy...the Grammys don't mean shyt to black music :sas2:
a Grammy a Grammy. Race shyt aside. Only kufi wearing coli militants on that shyt..plus channel orange was dope and went gold faq or not. nikka was ft. On watch the throne before he had actual CD out. How is he losing?

successful people do not fear failure, that's why they're successful.

peopl that fear failure don't even try to pursue their dreams.
actually sometimes they do, Sade did an interview and said she doesn't do features because she fears that the end result of what she might give the artist wont meet their expectations, so she just records songs just for herself because she doesn't judge her own work as highly as other people might...

Novacane was really dope, but that's about as far as I go.

Really, it's weird. Because most ppl assume Luther Vandross, Freddie JAckson and a few others were gay, but they never admitted it, nor did they ever sing about "men" lyrically.....so nobody cared and still jammed their music. Frank prob shoulda just went about it that way.

I think coming out publicly, while praised by cac media and people being PC, fukked him up a little bit. People kind of shied away from hearing dude sing about other men.

Like someone else said, at least with Luther Vandross we could pretend he wasn't singing about men. Regardless of how PC this society gets publicly, privately a lot of people just aren't comfortable with the idea of hearing a dude sing sweet nothings about another dude. We like to insert ourselves into the music, be it as the man or the woman in the equation, and once that's no longer doable the music becomes harder to relate to.

All that said, Nostalgia/Ultra is still one of my favorite albums of the 2010s and I'm not even an RnB fan. Hopefully his next project can be even 80% as good as N/U was.

but hes NOT luther Vandross or Freddie Jackson.

most of frank ocean's hype came from him coming out.

plus, he was already a blatant plant.

You guys are so detached from reality. Buzz from coming out can't make people care about your music. Maybe for music fans like yourself who maybe just pay attention based on media hype but people were calling Channel Orange classic before that news even dropped
I'm pretty sure Frank Ocean established a core fanbase and travelled internationally before the coming out and Channel Orange too :camby:

These times people like you were sleep :mjlol:
