Remy Ma was arrested Saturday on charges of attempted murder in a shooting outside a New York nightspot.
At her arraignment on Sunday, she pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other counts and a judge granted the prosecution’s request for bail to be set at $250,000, according to The Associated Press. She was released from New York’s Rikers Island prison after her manager put up his home as collateral, according to New York’s Daily News.
The ex-Terror Squad MC (real name: Reminisce Smith) had been sought for questioning in the shooting of a 23-year-old woman early Saturday after an argument near a bar in Lower Manhattan. She reported to police at around 8 p.m. Saturday evening and was also arrested on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the AP.
“I ask everyone to keep an open mind,” said Ma’s attorney Scott Leemon, who accompanied her to the police station. “Things are not always as they seem.” He said an arraignment is likely to be held on Sunday (July 15).
The victim in the shooting, Ma’s close friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph, 23, is in stable condition at a New York hospital. According to several reports, the two had a violent altercation — resulting in Barnes-Joseph being shot twice in the midsection — after a party early Saturday in which Ma accused the woman of stealing $2,000 from her. A Cadillac Escalade belonging to Ma reportedly was used as a getaway vehicle after the shooting; the vehicle was crashed into a parked car three blocks from the crime scene and was abandoned.
A man who attended the party told New York’s Daily News on Saturday that Ma and Barnes-Joseph were “like sisters.” Witnesses told the paper that Ma had said Barnes-Joseph had been the last person to hold her purse at the party.
Sasha Tcherekoff, owner of the Pizza Bar, told the AP that a review of security videotape taken inside his nightspot showed the rapper and her friends having a good time before they exited.
“The police have indicated to us that the altercation happened a block away,” the owner said. “The security tapes determined there was no physical or verbal altercation while they were in the Pizza Bar.”
Remy Ma — also known as Remy Martin — was discovered by the late Big Pun during the late 1990s and became a member of Fat Joe’s Terror Squad. She appeared on the group’s Grammy-nominated single “Lean Back” and last year released her debut LP, There’s Something About Remy, to positive reviews but underwhelming sales.
She left the Terror Squad this year and even put out a dis song and video about Fat Joe. She also parted ways with Universal Records and was at one point in talks to form a female rap group with former Disturbing Tha Peace MC Shawnna and Miami’s Jacki-O.

I doubt she was gonna come out on some "Super Bass" shyt.
I dunno, most people probably wouldn't have gone THROUGH with it, but someone you know stealing money from you will typically warrant that type of THREAT of a response (shooting you).
But again, she just carried it out where most people likely wouldn't. So they respect her on some "hell, I woulda done the same" type shyt.
