I'm a type 1 diabetic and have kept my shyt in check since I was 9. Over the last year... i've been eating more candy than I ever have since I was a kid. Started with me going to the movies with someone and she got some sour patch kids and she shared some. I had not eaten those in a very, very long time. Now, I'm making a concerted effort not to grab a bag whenever I go to the grocery store. Wild.

For people who say they are addicted, it may be because you don't eat that much complex carbohydrates. Your body NEEDS, sugar, especially the brain, but there are different forms of sugar. The raw sugar that is white or brown, is absorbed very fast, and this is why it can cause problems if you don't do anything strenuous. Complex carbs have sugar, but its absorbed more slowly, so it doesn't cause a spike in insulin, and it feeds your brain all day at a consistent level. If you have no sugar, your body will use protein to make the sugar which is called glucose when it is in the body. The issue with that is, your metabolism will depend on how much you make, and how much protein you eat, plus other issues may happen with too much protein eaten all the time.

Fructose is NOT a poison, its high fructose syrup that can cause issues. Fructose in fruit is good because it allows the sugar in the fruit to be well absorbed by your liver. This is why most fruit has both fructose, and glucose(sugar) in them, fructose doesn't mess with your insulin like glucose, so you can fill your liver up with sugar, while not draining your insulin if you had too much glucose.

This is why school needs to teach this stuff, reading these comments show how ignorant we are to this very basic knowledge!

The downside to fructose is fatty liver
