We can bailout farms, financial institutions, automobile companies for billions if not trillions of dollars. Bailouts which are responses to irresponsible policies which are self-inflicted. Spending money we don't have and aren't guaranteed to go back into the economy. But reparations? Somehow that can't be done.

this happens every generationSo, when it comes to healthcare or the social safety net, or doing something about climate change, we can't afford it.
But when it comes to protecting these white rural voters from the consequences of their own actions, money is no object.
I didn't think it was even possible for it to go any lower, but my respect for these people just keeps plummeting. From the perspective of keeping their voters happy I guess it makes sense, but ethically and fiscally this is hypocritical garbage.
