Both times I was hired as part time/seasonal.

First time was in 2005 I was 19 years old. Best Buy was my first job and I loved it. Loved electronics and working with people and matching them with solutions that fit their needs. There is no greater reward than people actually THANKING you for helping them spend money. I take it as a symbol of pride when customers only want to deal with me or someone from my team because they have absolute trust that their money will spent on something that will enrich their everyday lives.

So I started seasonal in Digital Cameras, from there was promoted to permanent part time in Wireless (cell phones, iPods, etc.) and then I became the "Wireless/DI Expert" which was a position that meant I was an expert of both departments, which was my full time promotion. From their I switched stores to do what's called Best Buy For Business

Me in 2007 Best Buy For Business

I did that until I left the company in 2009 to join Sony as a floor manager in their newly launched Sony Style retail stores.

From there I Joined the Army for three years. But my goal was always to eventually come back to Best Buy and finish what I'd started. However. When I left the army in late 2013 all of my old contacts had either moved on or left the company so I had nobody to vouch for me. My only choice what's to start right back at the bottom as a part time employee, so I accepted a position with my old store.

Within a month I had the highest IST (Individual Sales Tracker) of any employee. From there I was promoted to Team Lead and two months later I was promoted to Geek Squad Manager. After 6 months I was promoted to Specialty Sales Manager, which means I am in charge of 40% of the stores revenue ( Phones,Tablets, Portable Audio, and Health & Fitness)

Much respect I was a long time retail employee had to get out though currently working for garmin product support work at office depot almost eight years before that.

Having worked in both, I will go back serving if I have to but I hate retail so fukking much. I would not recommend anybody work in it, but some people like it which I don't fukking understand for the life of me

Serving is a lot of running around but decent money (better than retail, but what's not) and you eat their food

However if your goal is to work your way up in retail, why ask. Just do it girl
