Ive been a rap fan since before the Slim Shady LP dropped, was never really a big Eminem fan but honestly I love this album. MMLP2 and Recovery are my two favorite Eminem albums

Having listened to the album a few times. I think the album is definitely better then Recovery, I thought Recovery was a sappy, pop album and a disappointment because Cold Wind kind of set the tone for a Relapse 2 type sound. Then it devolved into a sappy mess of me against the world against all odds type songs, that was sort tired when he did Encore. The problem is when you invoke the namesake of your best album and one of the best albums of the past 15 years expectations are sky high. Again he teases us again when he put out Berzerk one of his best singles in a long time, imo.
The problem is that without the day to day struggles and honestly the drugs gave him a unique edge when he did his music, and his constant contact with hip-hops underground kept him sharp. The problem now is that, he has become the very thing he used to rebel against a decade ago. So when he digs on celebrities in 2014 it sounds forced and rings hollow. He's at his best when he kind of breaks the 4th wall and digs into himself, and I like his heartfelt stuff too, but it has become so formulaic and trite that his lyrics lose steam. If I hear another song with him and Rihanna or some 2nd rate Hailey Williams impersonator, I will jab my eardrums out with a rusty icepick.
Em needs to just get back to the fundamentals, keep his production circle to more established hip hop producers (even himself). Keep that 12 step motivational fluff to a minimum and just have fun out there.

i agree for the most part. i didnt like it on first listen but i started to enjoy it after a few spins. plus with Em his bars are so layered that certain shyt isnt heard fully until later on. i enjoy the record though especially with the bonus tracks.
only joints i really dont bump are bad guy, monster, stronger than i was, berzerk(its ok), love game(also ok), and headlights. everything else is straight with me.
im just not always in an Em mood so i can only bump his shyt at certain times.

Encore > MMLP2
Not even bullshytting. Not because it's just outright horrible but because the best songs on that are GREAT and the whole idea of making an album...about not wanting to make an album is at the very least intriguing.
Now if you had taken the bonus disc and replaced the handful of blatant pop cuts and stupid shyt like "a$$hole" MMLP2 could have panned out to be a decent album. No way in hell should a song like groundhog day be left off the main album for stupid shyt like "survival' especially when it fit his theme of kind of making an audio time capsule/scrapbook. And then "don't front" ends up a "bonus" cut
You honestly could have opened the album with that shyt.

Oh and unpopular opinion: Stronger Than I was is fukking dope. I actually wouldn't mind more songs like that from em if they were a little more toned down, shyt was smooth until he started screaming

na this album is trash and I used to fukk with Eminem heavy, few good cuts but most of those are bonus tracks and the bad stuff is like next level bad. Cringe worthy shyt.
Rap God, Groundhogs Day, Don't Front, and Wicked Ways are all piff and Rhyme or Reason is solid too. Everything is either average or trash and the trash ones are REALLY bad lol
