Just read up on it. It was supposed to be DDP who beat Goldberg. Wonder what happened to that..

I cant believe it, but at that time, Nash WAS over as fukk compared to Goldberg. I had no idea.

From the L.O.W podcast
..... it didn't work out for a number of reasons. For starters, Goldberg's luster was wearing off. Pitting him against Nash at Starrcade was a mistake. Nash was a top babyface in the company as leader of the NWO Wolfpac and arguably more over than Goldberg.
:dwillhuh: I don't remember this. Apparently there's video of Hall asking the crowd if they want to see Goldberg and the crowd boos.
WCW officials told Hall NOT to take a survey. "Whatever you do, Scott. Don't take the survey." So Scott Hall takes the survey. "WHO'S HERE TO SEE BILL GOLDBERG?" and the boos are LOUD. Goldberg wasn't hot anymore. WCW was left with no credible babyfaces.
. :ohhh: when all this happened? Who got that vid :lolbron:

lol. no, this post is the dumb shyt.

i have no beef with you, but you put your head on a swivel in every wcw thread.

lol @ "the overwhelming majority of the paying audience". you clearly werent in tune with wcw in real-time.

let me tell you how i remember it.

first of all i was a huge hogan mark and i mainly rode with the heels, so tbh i hated both these guys. yes even though i am a huge fan of his now, as a teen i was far... FAR from a goldberg mark.

but you wanna know what? i still bought into him. i may not have liked him but his star was undeniable. the moment it was announced that he was to face hogan for the title it made me sick... cause you knew he was gonna win. he was that big.

was kevin nash and the wolfpack over? abso-fukking-lutely. was he one of the coolest babyfaces in wrestling? abso-fukking-lutely. but did i ever buy him as a serious threat to goldberg? hell. fukking. no. not even close. and anyone that tells you differently is lying. nobody legitimately expected nash to win clean because nobody thought he could measure up as a superstar.

and you wanna know what i also distinctly remember about that match? being totally and utterly confused / disgusted by that ending. look i am not a fan of how they ended taker's streak but at least it got brock over the moon, here NO ONE got over. these guys would never draw the same again. and holy shyt what a putrid, anti climactic ending to such a monumental streak.

there's no defending it. it was an awful, awful decision and it was all done so that nash could stroke his own ego. he wanted to be the one to end the streak, that's all there is to it.

Nash shouldn't have been the one to end it much the same as Brock shouldn't have ended Takers IMO.

Except that Goldberg had to lose, Taker didn't

Why? Goldberg never had to lose a WCW match ever. The ratings were still thru the roof. The ratings went way down after he lost and it was the end of WCW.

:mjlol: except that it turned nash heel, led to to stale ass hogan returning to become champ & take over the most popular face stable, turned luger heel, & had Goldberg looking like a bytch
the 'nWo wolfplack elite' was so garbage breh

the SUPER OG WOLFPACK of nash hall and syxx was GOAT...them just terrorizing flair and piper was incredible

How is that anything? Two neckbeards on a podcast making up revionist history outweighs my memory? I actually watched WCW, and not the edited crowd noise WWE versions that get passed off on the WWE Network. Goldberg was on an entirely different level from anyone else.
I watched it too and i watch it damn near once every year, your memory is T-R-A-S-H

lol@The Wolfpack being just as over as Goldberg in 1998. That's some straight up revisionist ass history :russ:

Goldberg was arguably the biggest thing going in pro wrestling/pop culture back then.

wcw fans were generally getting tired of goldberg.

wolfpack was on fire. they were everything that the wwf likes to pretend, and nash was the main mouthpiece. it was absolutely time to end the streak and give the belt to nash.

the crowd was firmly behind nash and going crazy. y'all can ignore it all y'all want.

let me tell you how i remember it.

your problem is that you're basing everything off your own personal feelings & emotions.

going into it, i knew nash had a good chance of winning the belt.

whether he was gonna win clean or not, is neither here nor there.

crowd was souring on goldberg. he had to drop it.

the ratings were up regardless cuz the roster was goat.

Ending Goldberg's streak should have made someone else. Nash was already super over, which is exactly why it shouldn't have been him.

Goldberg should have stayed undefeated until WCW created a new babyface star ready to dethrone him, maybe DDP or Booker T. But of course, this is WCW and they jobbed DDP out to Goldberg early and weren't going to push Booker T at all.

The bigger mistake was WCW's inability to push a new monster face moreso than Nash going over Goldberg.
