:mjcry: Why am I even going to waste another minute going back and forth with this guy? Should be easy and not requiring of much thought, though.

Whats to address?

What he actually said. "Religion is bullshyt" and "Reza Aslan is dumb poopy head" are not valid counterpoints to what he said.

Reza danced and tried to evade the role islam has in the very concepts being discussed like female mutilation or women in politics then tries to smile and charm his way out of THAT by saying that its a christian and "african" thing

So tell me what the role Islam has in the concept of female genital mutilation. I'm listening.

Because you got your liberal cherry hole wet thinking Aslan had something to offer to the discussion about debating religion.

Reza Aslan knows exponentially more about religion than you. That is a fact that's not debatable.
he's a complete tool lacking ANY sort of valuable criticism.

Yup. A religious scholar with a Ph.D in sociology and is extremely learned in the history of religion has literally zero value to bring to the table when discussing religion. But a fanatical atheist Tariq Nasheed nut-guzzler who posts all day on a hip-hop message board is an authority. Carry on.

Everything Maher said was correct.

Aslan isn't even qualified to talk about how Maher skipped over geopolitical infuences as opposed to Islam.

Look at your very link:

ASLAN: Stop saying things like "Muslim countries."

LEMON: In Pakistan, women are still being stoned to death.

ASLAN: And that's a problem for Pakistan. You're right. So, let's criticize Pakistan.

:pachaha:
LEMON: He's making a clear distinction there. He says it's not militants, it's not Islam; it's militant Islam. Do you understand his distinction there? Is he correct?

ASLAN: Well, he's correct in talking about militant Islam being a problem.

He is absolutely incorrect in talking about ISIS equaling Hamas. That's just ridiculous. No one takes him seriously when he says things like that. And, frankly, it's precisely why, under his leadership, Israel has become so incredibly isolated from the rest of the global community. :troll:

Those kinds of statements are illogical, they're irrational, they're so obviously propagandistic. In fact, he went so far as to then bring up the Nazis, which has become kind of a verbal tick for him whenever he brings up either Hamas or ISIS.
So what specifically is wrong with what he said? Smileys aren't counterarguments.

I've had the misfortunate of responding to a series of excruciatingly vapid posts from you, and still all I've got is...

-Religion is bullshyt

-Everything Bill Maher said was right

-Reza Aslan is an asswhipe/doucebag/dikkhole/whatever other juvenile insult pops in your head

-Reza Aslan isn't qualified to talk about religion, but you are

-Islam somehow responsible for female genital mutilation

-You like to quote Reza Aslan and respond with a smiley as a counterargument

Thanks for wasting several minutes of my life. You're a moron.

because you like defending theologians.

i'm sure theres a dragon-con panel that you'd love to contribute to :mjlol:

He didn't say anything besides "all muslim countries aren't the same"

yet when pressed he ignores the things that applied to muslim countries :dead:

So tell me what the role Islam has in the concept of female genital mutilation. I'm listening.

1. It condones it.

2. tons of nations that are MUSLIM practice it.

Deal with it.

Reza Aslan knows exponentially more about religion than you. That is a fact that's not debatable.
Thats like being verbose in dungeon and dragons special abilities.

who fukking cares?

Its the most useless academic pursuit...possibly EVER. :pachaha:

Yup. A religious scholar with a Ph.D in sociology and is extremely learned in the history of religion has literally zero value to bring to the table when discussing religion.
He's completely useless and heres why:

1. its well documented Aslan lies and has lied about not only the status of his credentials, but where he actually taught and continues to each

2. he claims to be a scholar yet his latest book was AT BEST a radical interpretation on a figure in a religion he doesnt even follow.

n't a fanatical atheist Tariq Nasheed nut-guzzler who posts all day on a hip-hop message board is an authority. Carry on.

And I speak KNOWLEDGABLY about what I defend. And this could be the train home for all I care. You'd still lose this argument.

So what specifically is wrong with what he said?
He's evading the legit points the news anchors presented to him, nor did he challenge anything Maher said outside of "he's an atheist and he hurt my feelings."

He wants the world to stop looping muslim countries together while he keeps ignoring blatant lies about what present muslim countries and societies are doing.

He's an apologist...at best.
I've had the misfortunate of responding to a series of excruciatingly vapid posts from you, and still all I've got is...
-Religion is bullshyt
still true.

-Everything Bill Maher said was right
I'll say so

-Reza Aslan is an asswhipe/doucebag/dikkhole/whatever other juvenile insult pops in your head
undoubtably.

-Reza Aslan isn't qualified to talk about religion, but you are
He isn't. Not to me.

-Islam somehow responsible for female genital mutilation
It is an active contributor to it.

-You like to quote Reza Aslan and respond with a smiley as a counterargument

Yeah I follow Bill Maher's show and all but he has a huge blind spot when it comes to understanding Islam or brown people in general

I can't even blame him it's not like he has any life experience or understanding that pertains to the subject. You can't be in LA showbiz and taking your cues from Sam Harris and really understand WTF is going on in the middle east

whats to understand?

Did you even hear Maher's entire comment?

I'll admit he has a blind spot to nuance sometimes, but he was 1000% right last Friday

Whats to articulate?

Aslan lied about everything he mentioned.

His tactics rely on obfuscation and misdirecting.

Read the transcript again.

Breh liberals in america are shaping and using american laws and traditions. You can't drop into the middle of saudi arabia and start yelling at saudis about gay marriage. You have to work from the society they have to go towards more progressive places. Different modes of activism don't reveal different intellectual stances.

But you're not from there. You're not a citizen there. Even as an outsider, you won't be effective there with the same public stance and arguments you could make on a UCLA campus. Do you want to create change or do you just want to feel good on the internet?

But you're not from there.
So?

You're not a citizen there.
So?

Even as an outsider, you won't be effective there with the same public stance and arguments you could make on a UCLA campus.
So?

Do you want to create change or do you just want to feel good on the internet?

Who says I don't have these discussions offline? Or that I don't pursue change?

And even if I didn't, how would that change my utter disdain for charlatans (and theologians at large) like Reza Aslan or Islam in general?
