The overall message Fest attempted to deliver is on point. That Keef (or whatever his name is) will be paid well for delivering more workers to the prison complex.

THERE"S NO GETTING AROUND THIS AS MUCH AS SOME OF YOU WILL LIKE!

I was there when the fight was whether Luke and the 2 Live Crew music could do any harm to society. I was on the side of, "It's just music, let them eat, it can't hurt" because I was young and wanted to wild then.

As a grown man I see where them winning and being allowed to "eat" has led our society. The songs played on the radio, even R&B are graphic as hell!!! Every song is about "beating it up". Like kids can't decipher what that means!

I think our people are more susceptible to the messages in music. Maybe it has to do with our being more spiritual or our melanin or whatever. But it's plain to see that we are more susceptible. Of course our coming from fukked up places with little guidance doesn't help either.

So while our music isn't a CAUSE, it definately is a accelorant and co-d.

And I actually enjoy a lot of this ignorant stuff in doses. I just notice there isn't a balance and the 100% truth isn't being told. What some of these goons need to do is also tell what happens when they bang that right/wrong person and their shine is over because they are now performing for fellow inmates in a prison.

I hear you breh....I just disagree with his point that hip hop motivates nikkas to kill each other or that's even a factor in the incarceration rate of black men which I think was his main point of contention..fest is Being short sighted by giving too much weight to. Hip hop artists on thier influence of young people ....if he really wanted to attack rap music and artists he should of went after somebody with more stature in the game than chief keef...that showed a little cowardice on his behalf..he needs too look at the big picture and realize that ain't no damn rapper corrupting these young nikkas minds man....when it comes to culprits for the prison industrial complex neither chief keef or any record label should be mentioned anywhere in that conversation

I don't know if Fest is saying that hip-hop motivates people to kill each other. And I may have suggested that, but that's not what I meant. Let's be clear, people kill each other for other reasons, not because of the music they listen to. I don't think there is a single rapper or musician in any genre of music or performer in any form of entertainment who has made someone kill another because of the music/art they created.

I do think music can be motivation for some to live a certain way. I think there might be a small group of young nikkas (maybe even some old nikkas) who think and act according to what rappers rap about. The music glorifying the hustler/trapper/gangster lifestyle is certainly not discouraging people from selling drugs, busting their guns, robbing people, etc.

I guess where you and I disagree is that I don't think rap is purely entertainment. I think it's more influential then that. I think the music has some impact on the culture and how people are living. It reflects what is going on in the culture and it has some effect on what's going on in the culture. And I think, in a complex way, rap music and the music business may have some responsibility for black men going to prison. I don't think it's even close to being the biggest or most important factor, but I think it's OK to include it in the conversation at some small level.

Another thing, Fest didn't only go after Chief Keef. He name dropped Ross and Waka, too. I'll concede that the title and focus of the article was about Keef. Even then, Keef wasn't really the focus of the article. He was just used to bring attention to other things that Fest wanted to talk about. To be extra clear, he didn't go after any artists, really. If anything, he attacked the "persona" that some of these rappers are portraying on these records. He's suggesting that these aren't real people we're listening to. He says it would be a mistake to view them that way. Instead, they are caricatures of people. If they talked about their pains, struggles, hopes, dreams, and loves, in addition to the other things they rap about, maybe you could see them as real people. Keef could be a real voice for Chicago youth if he were talking about these things. But he's not. He's just talking about that shyt he don't like. :stylin: I think people got caught up in Fest seemingly "attacking" Keef when in reality he wasn't attacking Keef the person but Keef the rap persona and why the rap game is pushing him.

Finally, you can't tell me some of these nikkas aren't influenced by the music. You mean to tell me there's not one artist who you've listened to who hasn't influenced you in one way or another. I know people who worship some of these artists. I know people who view 2Pac as their kin even though their only interaction with him was through the music. I'm not suggesting that they're crazy. It just demonstrates that rap can be powerful to some. If you take this as true, the question Fest is raising is an important one: if rappers are influential and the music has some effect beyond entertainment, why is Keef being pushed over someone like Killer Mike?

I don't know why he's up in arms. Chief won't be around for more than 5 years if that. And Fests career is dead.

Chicao hiphop been dominated by soft, concious and possibly gay rappers for a while now and Chicago been had problems lol....do the math Fest these young wild nikkas was raised off Kanye music:russ:That or it just show the lack of impact Kanye musically has in the streets of his own city and maybe he should be more involved....but if Kanye who is much bigger to chicago in terms of impact didn't influence nikkas to become emo sellouts, why u think Keef will? Oh bcuz nikkas can relate bcuz they already out there doin the shyt keef talkin about or at least ain't against it? Keef is nothing more than a soundtrack for nikkas already about that.

I think I should go through and highlight/quote all the remarks in this thread that show the type ignorance that keep black people losing and keep the ignorant rap dominating.

Black people need to look in the mirror to a certain extent and stop acting like they don't know.

Holy jumpin jiggaboos...

I hope this is a parody or a joke or something....

I'll just attack the spirit of this post since I don't know if the poster is serious:

I guess black people afraid of paragraphs? I guess black people afraid to read huh? I guess it's beneath black people to be able to read, that shyt for cac's right?

"Just doing our thang" is the reason we don't own shyt in this world. Instead of thinking before moving, like them wise cac's, we just.........do shyt???

I wonder what would Boosie tell us about 'that life' behind bars and if it were worth it?

And see those the type people we have entertaining our kids.

Those the type people who we are listening to on the radio right this minute.

We have let uncivilized DUMMIES, who can't read, are ashamed they can't read, but did what black people are good for....and made it cool that they can't read (turning our negative into a positive) AND thus have more impressionable youth wanting to emulate them.

This is where hip hop went wrong. We let the dumb mentality convince us that we're weird and wrong, because we have the capacity to READ...amongst other things.
