jay is cheating
The nerve of you people. I would bet that 90% of the posters in this thread hating, mad at Jay Z haven't purchased 10 albums in the last 10 years. Yet Jay Z is "cheating" for finding new ways to hustle the game? You have posters in here who are literally upset at dude making a power move:pachaha:

Why are nikkas that stan cats who haven't gone plat in a decade so obsessed with a platinum plaques? :dead:.

No one cares besides these cocksuckers.

It's not like he'll be on your radio anymore than he would have, not win any more grammy's and on. Yet these cocksuckers are all up in any Jay thread even the most meaningless discussing it as if they managed him. While simultaneously swearing that they don't fukk with him.

I called it. I told you guys they were going to update the policy. "Man of Steel" just recently did this as Walmart brought 1 Million tickets before it was released and when it came out that added 12 Million to it's opening weekend box office. Billboard didn't want to comply cause they knew the numbers would be huge for Jay if they did. (Even though they let Lady Gaga get away with selling her album for .99 cents, SMH). Also you have to be a major artist and BRAND to pull off this type of promotion. Samsung spent over 5 Million to get those "Magna Carta" Downloads. There aren't that many artist I could see in Hip Hop that business would do this. Now Pop? that's a different story.

I can't see how, Samsung put up the 5 million, Aint an artist in the music business that would turn that down. RIAA makes the rules.

This nikka found another way to generate revenue from music when the old way stopped working, this RIAA shyt is secondary.

This.

Even in Pop there's only perhaps Five artists who could potentially get a deal like that.

Lady Gaga
Taylor Swift
Adele
Beyonce
Katy Perry

Its about being a SUPERSTAR with longevity and a history of successfully sustained relevance. There's only perhaps 4-5 rappers that could pull that off as well

Jay-Z
Eminem
Kanye West
Drake
Lil Wayne

Eminem and Lil Wayne have both moved over 1 million albums in a single week TWICE. Kanye West has moved over 800k twice. Drake and Jay-Z have moved over 600k once. All five have NEVER failed go to Platinum within this decade and all five have rampant fanbases. All five can sell out a worldwide tour. All five are basically Hip Hop money printing machines. THIS is the criteria for this sort of deal. This will not become the NORM because there are only ever about 9-10 TRUE superstars at one time within popular music...

but kendrick didn't sell a MILLION COPIES thou...
IDK if you know how album sales work bro but those albums are already bought and paid for by the companies for resell to their customers

Somewhere, their merchandising person has concluded that they should buy more albums to keep up with their customer demand for purchases of the album. They aren't just stocking them to sit on the shelf.

Record labels aren't just shipping them for free to the stores and then waiting for a pay back and a tally of the units sold after the store has stocked them.

So yes, Kendrick has sold a million copies of his albums. The only thing that's happening now is a resell.

Looks like @Long_Live_The_Kane is the only person who actually read the article.

The RIAA mentioned Jay-Z's album as something that made them look at the certification delay issue, not something that made them count the Samsung distributed albums

Are there people in here really arguing that Jay "cheated" the system to go plat?

This is the same dude who sold 420,000 copies of The Blueprint the same week of 9/11. The same dude who is GUARANTEED platinum sales on every album he puts out. You can set a fukking clock by this dudes album sales, he is good for a mil on a bad day. Kingdom Come is double plat for christ sakes. This was business, nothing more. He will easily sell a million more copies of the album and ya'll already know this!

Stop with the faux outrage and salute that man for creating another avenue for artists to get that check.

Then someone with his legend/GOAT status it shouldn't been problem with MCHG considering he hasn't released anything SOLO in 4 years.

He's got that first week sales anxiety plus he never went platinum in a week, like Slim, 50 or Wayne, so he found a way to beat the system like the opportunist he is.

Good point..

We see whats happening with Paula Deen, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne etc...

You get too deep in bed with these coporations you have to play by their rules or kick rocks..

With someone as polished as Jay-Z its not gonna matter, but Dead Prez or Killer Mike?

I can see AT&T saying that stock holders and customers are offended by their support of artists with "homophobic" or "misogynistic" material and edited and censoring songs...

Which fortune 500 corp is gonna advance purchase this eras version of Death Certificate?

:manny:

There will be an even more vast distance between "underground" and "mainstream" going forward...Which is cool with me...
Some of you guys are seriously slow. You do realize that the Fortune 500 Corp would actually have to want to purchase the copies and then the artist would have to agree, right? And then they'd have to negotiate a deal. This is common sense. Like some Fortune five company is gonna wanna sponsor Dead Prez. :heh:

How can they count something that hasn't been released yet? :mindblown:

this post must belong in the 90's. cause people right now dont make good music anyway. not commercial artist for the most part. you have like 2. the rest are barely bubbling from the underground.

so you wont have to worry about corps getting in bed with semi named guys.

and for the record do you not hear all the name dropping from cars, clothes and alcohol. you think that aint product placement. they are already sold to these corps as is. the big namers are already signed to pepsi, coke, etc shoe deals.
