Professional sports is an insanely insolated world where they have each others backs at almost every turn in most cases, almost on some "us vs. them" mentality when it comes to the media and civillians in general. Football especially, since it (theoretically) promotes more of a team atmosphere and environment.

Not saying those defending him are lying or being insincere, but just that we shouldn't be surprised. There is a long history of teammates, present and past, defending the idiotic off and on the field behavior of their peers.

Agreed, but in this instance, the "victim" is a football player and teammate as well. So I don't think that would apply here, since, if anything, they're actually controversially going against the narrative being pushed, which is "racist bully threatens, extorts, and intimidates poor victim who has mental health issues, leading him to snap and leave team"

Who came out and said he was a good guy? I've heard some saying he's a guy you want on the field with you, but that's very different from "He's a good guy".
