So by this logic they should continue to brag about other people's brands that don't even respect them, give free promo to said brand and never own anything themselves?

They did (and do) own things. Whether it's high end fashion or not is the issue (because God forbid one of these rappers really went out and had a high end fashion clothing line. Then the complaint would be that these rappers don't make shyt affordable for the demographic that buys their music)

I'm not sure you understand why rappers brag about and want high end shyt. Hell I'm still not sure what you want out of Rick Owens or any of these fashion designers that make popular clothing that don't care who buys them. Cristal got mad that rappers promoted their shyt. What did Hov do? Say fukk Cristal and started propping up Ace of Spades. Tommy Hilfiger resented hip-hop being so integral to the success of his line. What did rappers do? Stop wearing it. So these rappers do have their limits. In this case, there's nothing to complain about, and if Rick Owens was giving away free gear to rappers who dikkride his shyt, everyone and their mother would dikkride brands hoping for the same effect.

There's a reason why Jay-Z would never do a song saying "I don't pop molly I rock Gap Gear." Why? Because while Gap Gear is popular, everyone has it and can buy it. Rappers always wanna be up on something fresh and something that in their world, only they have. If Hov didn't have ownership in Rocawear, he wouldn't brag about wearing it since it's something anybody can go out and buy.

Not sure whether Rick Owens is a racist or not but here is a video from his recent show.

As for rappers, lets be honest a lot of them name drop names like rick owens to seem cultured. Do nikkas in the trap who buss guns really wear obscure fashion brands like that? Its like funny seing wiz khalifa dressing like he's some kind of avant guard painter but then raps about smoking weed and being famous. I also don't think rick ross could fit into anything rick owens.

I could sense a bit of condescension in his quote but all fashion people are like that.

As for Kanye west and the fashion world, im on his side and I totally see where he's coming from. Dude just doesn't want to accept that its just not going to happen for him that route. The people with the keys to the castle in the fashion world just wont open it for him.

Rick Owens has become a huge deal in hip-hop—especially with artists like Jay Z, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, and Rick Ross either wearing his designs or name-dropping him in their songs. But, according to a recent AnOther interview, Owens isn't really even familiar with any of them, let alone listens to their music. He must know Rocky, though, right? The Harlem rapper and his wife, Michelle Lamy, did hit up a few galleries in the city together earlier this month.

Anyway, here's what Owens had to say about hip-hop:
I must admit that I'm not that familiar with Jay-Z or Rick Ross or hip-hop in general. I mainly listen to hardcore techno, old disco records and old show tunes. But of course I'm pleased to have a happy client and I think it is nice that they talk about my products. I cannot imagine rejecting any positive response. I don't supply them with my jackets, if that's what you think. They have to go out and buy them. It is a surprise to me that they would even bother, but I guess as our world is getting more and more commercial maybe it has become interesting to them to look into less obvious, more obscure fashion labels. Before, hip-hop used to be all about big luxury label brands like, you know, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci.”
what are you hoping rick owens response to be?

:wtf: :what: :dahell:

Dude might as well dressed them up in monkey suites

Well according to what ive read about this they were trying to bring awareness to the fact that most of the people in runway shows look exactly the same and ignore a huge segment of the population. But I guess you could look at it that way as well :yeshrug:

My main problem was that in general we as a culture look like fools bragging and putting money into brands that have no interest in us, that don't understand us, and frankly look down upon us as fans of hip hop culture. But I understand. We all want to have $40,000 t shirts and what not

Then these dummies need to get paid to advertise these dudes products then. They're letting potentially millions of customers know every time they're song is on the radio how incredible someone else's product is. FOR FREE! Where they do that at breh :wtf:. Why you think these networks charge corporations millions of dollars for a 30 second ad at the super bowl?

Instead of being mad at these designers for not giving a fukk, the rappers needs to use their influence to get paid.

shyt let me be a rapper, Kellogs, Pepsi, and General Motors will be in everyone of my damn rhymes if they bring in that paper.
is it advertising or stunting on peons like ourselves? Now, rappers DO get endorsements for certain things, so rappers DO get paid depending on what it is.
Again, I didnt highlight him saying the things he did about William roberts or Jay Z. Im saying he kind of distanced his brand from the hip hop community with his comments just by the tone. Thats what I got after I read the quote. I mean its his product so I aint really tripping just dont get some of these hip hop dudes that will shout out dudes like this.. :scusthov:

What could Rick Owens say to make you feel more at ease with his "relationship" with the hip-hop community? Hip-hop music isn't what he listens to (look at him. Not entirely a shock to the system). He's not giving rappers free shyt (which is up to him. He could turn around tomorrow and make A$AP Rocky one of the faces of his line officially). He's damn sure not gonna make it any more accessible or affordable just because rappers like it. He was being diplomatic about it all and somehow some of y'all took it as a put down.

If Rick did what y'all wanted him to do, y'all would question his honesty and his true intentions. shyt, Miley Cyrus is out here risking her career tryna be down and most of y'all think she's a culture vulture.

If we used this logic, no reputable brand would have ever wanted to touch hip-hop. Even the timeless hip-hop gear we love (Timberland boots, Nikes, Adidas track suits) those companies either aren't any more familiar with us than Rick Owens is or wouldn't fukk with us at all if we weren't helping them make money. You wanna have the best shyt you can. It's why you'd rather buy expensive ass Nikes than buy a pair of Marburys.
