"Rick Ross launched his career on Def Jam and remained with the label for many years, but according to him, the label is having issues.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone to promote his and Meek Mill’s upcoming joint album, Rozay was asked about whether he would get involved in a new Def Jam: Fight for NY game if one were ever to materialize.

“I might have to do it. But Def Jam is damn near outta business, so it’ll have to be Maybach Music,” Ross quipped. “That was a cool-ass game, yo!”

Rick Ross’ last release on Def Jam was 2015’s Black Market, after which he took his talents to Epic Records under the L.A. Reid regime. But following the release of 2021’s Richer Than I Ever Been, Rozay fulfilled his contract with Epic and decided to become a free agent.

Rozay and Meek drop their joint album Too Good To Be True on November 10, which will be distributed through Maybach Music Group and Apple veteran Larry Jackson’s Gamma media company.

The dynamic duo stopped by Complex‘s “GOAT Talk” this week in advance of the project’s release. The conceit of the program is that guests name their picks for the all-time great in a variety of categories. But it was one topic in particular that caught fans’ fancy – where they seemingly hinted at a Drake feature on the album.

When asked to reveal what they believe to be the greatest of all-time Drizzy feature, both Ross and Mill were quick to his praises, but also allude to a future collaboration.

“Meek Milly and Rozay, we fukking with the boy heavily. Listen out for it on some of the new shyt that’s coming out very soon, you hear?” Meek said, with Ross adding, “You better believe it.”

Then they answered the feature question at hand, and both had the same pick. “I’m gonna say right off the top, ‘Stay Schemin,” said Ross, referencing his 2012 track with Drizzy and French Montana."

:francis: And somehow Butcher The 3rd thought it was a genius idea of signing to the label.

Reminds me of when I jumped on a gig some years back because a co-worker was looking out for me. Turned out, within a month or so, the company went out of business and the recession happened.

Sometimes, its good to weigh your options because when folks are leaving a ship, why the fukk are you booking the same cruise :why:

Well I don't knock him for getting a look at a major label and if it paid off, he'd be looked at as the guy who kept the lights on the way Redman did, Warren G did.

Benny DID weigh his options which is why he took his own label indie and didn't go to Shady/Interscope the way Westside Gunn and Conway did.

Fact is, all the bright minds at Def Jam splintered off and went elsewhere (Atlantic, 300, Alamo) or died (Shakir). Other than 0207 Def Jam, they haven't had even one artist they developed that made crazy noise.

It's kinda crazy how the 2 Chainz /Lil Wayne album next week will only be the 2nd Def Jam album to drop this year (3rd if you include Real Back In Style)

So that means you can put you held any position there… if I’m ever in a bind bad enough I’m definitely putting a company that recently went under on my resume

Trust I did, but after a while looking back at my resume...good grief most of the companies I worked for went out of business :picard:. And it sucks that the job market is so ass backwards with not accepting that businesses come and go, they continue to ask for references.

Like :why: aight let me look up my old boss that probably dead or moved on with their life, because the damn job requires of it.
