Truth. Ross never had a crossover white fanbase like that. He got a higher percentage of black fans than most artists that reached his level. From what I seen, most white folk that do fukk with his music are heavy into hip hop.

His popularity also peaked at a time when record sales was at an all time low and streaming hadn't taken off yet. Only a handful of artists with true widespread appeal and the machine all the way behind them was selling records like that 08-13.

Second paragraph is a bigger factor than people realize. A pretty shocking amount of albums from recognizable names at that time didn't even go gold until streaming came along.

That was the era where albums would do 300k first week and not even go platinum lmao
