Here's the summary of it all though. Scust just scust :snoop:

Right-Wing, Business-Funded Groups Are Preparing To Use The Janus Decision To Bleed Unions, Internal Documents Show

TL;DR
:
  • After the Janus vs. AFSCME ruling came down, several conservative think tanks launched campaigns as a means of starving unions of funds and eventually disbanding them altogether. The effort is aimed at encouraging public-sector workers in 22 states to withhold minimum bargaining fees from their labor unions.
  • The SCOTUS decision prevents unions that represent public employees from collecting an “agency fee” for the cost of bargaining on behalf of the workers in the union, meaning that government employees in unions no longer must contribute dues to pay for the fair-share cost of collective bargaining.
  • The strategy could spell the loss of over a $1 billion from union coffers.
  • Unions have also prepared for the decision. Over the last six months, Oregon, Washington, New York, and other states have enacted union-backed legislation to counter the Janus decision by changing the rules around how workers can opt-out of mandatory agency fees. Among other provisions, the laws allow union representatives to recruit during the workday, to set the terms for opt-out periods, and ensuring unions are notified of new employees hired by a government agency.
  • Without unions, the median salary for teachers in Wisconsin declined by 2.6 percent and median benefits declined 18.6 percent in the first five years after the legislation, according to one study.

but the thing is though; all that the ruling said is that unions can no longer extort dues from workers. these same workers are free to still pay their dues if they want

so if these union dues are so good, and the workers all see the benefit of paying them, cant they just keep paying them and the ruling won't change a fukkin thing?

That’s not exactly the full story. Under the ruling, worker still reap all the benefits that the union collectively bargains for even if they do not pay into the union. So as a worker you pretty much have no incentive to pay union dues anymore.

Also think of all the right wing nut jobs who will refuse to pay into the union that guarantees them fair wages, hours, and benefits.

Bottom line, repubs hate unions because repubs hate fair labor and almost all unions support the Democratic Party.

This is all politics, and it’s shameful.

not totally true, my dad's a teacher and he's gonna stop paying the union dues. he was disgusted that they gave their/his money to hillary clinton in 16. and by union politics and bullshyt in general

but if he opts out, he has to buy his own insurance and some other stuff. the way he was explaining made it sound like the majority of people are just gonna say fukk it and keep paying :yeshrug:my mom's a teacher too and she's not gonna opt out

there still is incentive though, if the union doesn't have resources then the slower those benefits will come about and the easier you may be out of work or getting screwed over on the job. thats the whole right wing plan

Meh. I work for one of the big three, and I can tell you right now that there are a LOT of UAW members that would stop paying in a heartbeat if they could, for various justifiable reasons. I don't think either side is right or wrong, it's all about how you as the member lives your life.
