So this whole "artist cheating" shyt is not true because most are not big enough to have it work. Unless you think local businesses are about to start copping 20,000 copies of Lil Fofo's album so it can be labeled the "sponsored by Big Rod's Auto Parts." I doubt that.

You guys keep laughing but urban music (albums that is) isn't selling. If this trend sustains itself I expect most artists to do exactly what JD & Memphis Bleak said on the Bclub

Drop mixtapes and singles and forget releasing retail albums.

- We saw this coming in the ringtone era.

- We saw it coming before that with the fascination/fixation of artists an R&B/POP type singles just to get fans to buy their album

Now albums only sell when you're one of the few acts who still have the machine (Nicki, Kendrick, J.Cole, Drake, Wayne) behind them or you bend over backwards with gimmicks and drama to generate interest around a project.

Keep laughing as Hip Hop is devolving

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
True, good point. But my question is, why don't artists get a plaques for mixtape downloads then? The same "active motion" exists. The only difference is there is no corporation interested in being apart of the marketing. But the same exact listeners are there...
because the mixtapes aren't registered and neither are the sites they are on

it's not like you can just set up a site or store and start having sales count there... that place has to go get registered with the riaa to make sure they are on the up and up and the numbers are genuine

mixtape sites are not about to register with no damn riaa
