Isn't J. Cole the ugly sister that no one wants to deal with? He worked his ass off to get to where he is now. Jay barely promoted him. Kanye's done more for big Sean than what Jay's done for Cole.

People are complaining about Samsung/Rihanna deal but your favorite artist isn't getting the same kind of deal. You have to be at the top of the food chain to get these kinds of deals.
You right about everything but the Jcole point.

If the fans dont fukk with it the artist won't be on top.

I swear there are some idiots on this board.

The sole purpose of having a label/management is to have them push you, it's not some conspiracy that people like Rihanna get a large promotional push. Artists that have a track record of success get more money and promo behind their projects then artists that don't. But that doesn't mean anything at the end of the day. You can push somebody as hard as possible, but if people don't like you it doesn't matter. If all it took was a large promotional budget and advertising to be a star every pop singer signed to a major label would be one.

Meanwhile Adele sitting on 6 Million legit copies sold in just a few months :scust:

These artist gotta learn to not whore themselves out jumping on everything, releasing trash singles, tricking your core fan base into supporting that wack shyt. She shoulda never let Travis Scott near this album.
what does adele have to do with this

Blah,

Taylor Swift sold her album for .99 cents before.

You act like Selling records mean define relevance in music
:russ: Then Billboard said your album has to cost atleast 3.50 to count.

‘Billboard’ Changes Rules Thanks To Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ 99 Cent Sale | Idolator

Many people were critical of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way’s incredible first-week sales of 1,108,000 copies sold, as 440,000 of those albums were sold through Amazon.com, and only for 99 cents. Though that may have been a genius marketing strategy at the time to secure an impressive first-week figure, Billboard is changing its rules so that scoring a #1 album by lowering the price of your LP will be a thing of the past.

From Billboard, “Unit sales for albums priced below $3.49 during their first four weeks of release will not be eligible for inclusion on the Billboard album charts and will not count towards sales data presented by Nielsen SoundScan. The rule also applies to reissued titles.”

And Rihanna's album looked like it was gonna get pushed back another few months. They drop a single w/ Drake and leak the album. Bam!

Yes, record sale matter.

At this point I see no difference of releasing a mixtape on ITunes vs an album
you dont need a record label to release mixtapes, dont need promo, dont need sample clearances, because it's not a retail release with all those resources behind it, there's little to no pressure to "perform" or track metrics to validate yourself.

and these #newrules plat albums looking kinda funny...but i dont care, the certification doesn't affect my enjoyment (or lack thereof) of the music

I'm :dead: that you can't even question popular artists without somebody claiming you're mad. The herd mentality is real.

If....let's say BONE for example....went 4x plat....that means it was actually popular enough to ship 4 million copies. There was a concrete relationship between the numbers, and how many people fukked with their music.

Rihanna is popular yes....and I'm not even arguing that she doesn't deserve this kind of deal with Samsung....but totally unrelated to that it's disingenuous as fukk to not see the difference between someone going platinum "the old way" and a major corporation copping 1 million albums so you go plat in 14 hours, when that never would've happened otherwise. If you're sitting here telling me Rihanna would've went plat in 14 hours without this, you're high out of your fukking mind. So yes, there's a clear disconnect between how popular she is and these numbers.

And that goes for Jay-Z too. And U2 or whoever the fukk it was that started us down this path.

Having said all that, I'm pretty :manny: about this. But some of yall got a knee jerk reaction to defend literally anything "the machine" puts in front of you. It's damn near like watching footage of a Trump rally.

Fred.
