Final Salute to the Colonel...

Damn being a kid in Jersey and hearing the Club God Tony Himphries play 'Trapped' was like heaven at the time. I used to steal my older sister's dusty tapes of WBLS with Colonel all over them. Then I got old enough to go to lClub Zanzibar and hear Colonel over those legendary speakers...memories...

R.I.P.

For those who were kids in the 80's, Colonel Abrams was part of the soundtrack to our youth. Especially coming up in Newark where house music is prevelant. Reminds me of cookouts, block parties in the summer, watching my older cousins get dressed on a Friday/Saturday night so they can hit up the Zanzibar, Paradise Garage, Club 88. So many great memories.

Preach. He actually came to the Peppermint Lounge once, where I worked summers back in the late 80's, he was a really cool dude.

This jam used to snap.

It's criminal how little credit he gets considering he really was one of the first dudes to really put House in the mainstream.

I only stopped there a few times when he was hosting, but he helped get a lot dudes that weren't from Jersey on there, I remember a young Deon Cole that stood out in particular. But I know dudes like Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock and Mike had passed through a few times.
