The internet will finish the job for everyone else :demonic:

The way they will do it is by giving free phones to those who refuse. Basically people pin welfare get a free phone right now. It'll be something similar to that...

shyt doubt cost that much, ancient technology. If a storm happens and a line goes down its a pain in the ass but it's not "expensive"

It's like firefighters claiming it cost them $50,000 every time they are called. I believe your reasons are not accurate either :francis:
You have to pay someone to fix it on top of potential hardware replacement issues

This is like when people didn't want to convert to digital television from analog.

There's better more efficient tech available.

:gucci: caping for landlines.

Landlines should be alternative too much digital tech can be hacked and it does go down... :francis: I'd rather have it then not have it in case something does go wrong.

Alternative to what? VoIP is superior now. That's the alternative if you want a phone in your house.

You're saying the 10% of people still hanging onto this is afraid of being hacked or on the rare instances where service goes down?

Landlines were never going to last forever. :manny:

As somebody who has to deal with fax machine issues at work, they can't die soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

lot of misinformation being spread

1. Phone land lines - are copper based, copper when goes bad has to replace. Imagine having to replace copper lines across the states , it's a huge cost vs building new networks with newer technology. These two techs are overlapping but both cannot exist from an investment standpoint.

2. In power outages , phone lines are usually still up and you have the ability to call 911. Most cellphones allow for 911 calls without service. However for days without help, your cellphone will die and if the phone lines are up (usually they are before power lines) that could be the difference between life and death. But with all the additional technology we have, responding to emergencies this may not be a huge issue. Additionally, you can always buy back up batteries and keep them juiced for emergencies. This would actually be cheaper in the long run vs a cellphoen

3. Rural americans may still need phone lines but that existing infastructure can be replaced with new fiber optics and cell towers to provide similar coverage.

Summary - phone lines is an old technology and it's time to adapt. I'm sure someone cried about not having a physical copy of a telegram and complained about not being able to hear and coverage when telephones made the telegram extinct.

A few years ago, a blizzard had half the East coast without service. I guess you guys forgot.

A bunch of people THEN didn't have landlines. But I was able to call my mama

This is why.. my bm lives in a place where you have ZERO fukking hope of getting a signal within miles.. ZERO... don't matter who you got as a carrier, i have never once seen a person have cell phone service. That's not the only place in america like that

most important, emergencies.. it's as simple as coming home, putting your phone on the charger and going to sleep.. oops the power went out while you was sleep.. phone dead

you are FINISHED... no phone whatsoever.. somebody dying, no 911 for you.. need to call anyone for anything, it's a wrap

are these scenarios less and less these days.. of course. but you can't just force the shyt on people without any viable backup methods.. first person to die cause there are no more landlines and somebody getting the fukk sued out them

I think we agree. ,we chatted just remove them in one swoop but large and small urban cities should bee looking to make land lines obsolete and let's move the innovation to the next level.
