I remember riding a bike through 'South LA' to hit up a soul food spot from a client's place I was working at. It was year 1 out of the 10 years I had spent there. It wasn't until I crossed Rosecrans and East Compton Bvld that I realized where I was. The streets I was cutting through off of the main roads looked like straight up suburbs. And I had no clue that LA was deliberately rebranding "South Central LA" to "South LA" to shake the history.

i live just off central. ive passed by that roscoes countless times as a kid and the first time i went there was because some white friends came into the area and wanted to go. the food and service was good, but i dont think ive ever had a meal with my head on a swivel before
