From 95-99 Prodigy was top 5 out. Mobb Deep dropped 3 classics in a row. Jay-Z took over when BIG died. I clearly remember sending subs to Jay. Jay responding on “Where I’m From”. Then the Source magazine P called him out. Prodigy dropped “Keep it Thoro” crazy single btw.

Jay went at Nas and P on Takeover. Nas destroyed him on Ether but Mobb Deeps response was. How you bait Jayz all them years to release this garbage? I was expecting an Ether type diss.

I remember when the blueprint dropped Takeover went more at Mobb Deep than Nas. Mobb Deep had Burn on the radio the radio, Prodigy had the verse on Cormega album. The buzz was there you build up all that anticipation to release a lukewarm diss at JayZ? I was disappointed.

Real weird era for P. Not only did he issue a weak response after Takeover hit him harder than it did Nas, he went from dropping consistently fire verses on Murda Muzik and HNIC to whatever Infamy was. And in the midst of that Nas smacked him upside the head on Destroy & Rebuild.

Had to be a combination of health issues and substance abuse. It was crazy disappointing he dropped such a weak response after subbing and baiting Jay for years.

Yeah, he is one of my faves of all times but after HNIC it seems he fell off a cliff and was hardly rhyming anymore and just sounded angry. He never really was the same as he was at his height, no clue what happened but Prodigy had a big fall off lyrically.


I think you might be right on the healthy issues and substance abuse, he just did not sound the same at all and was just threatening on songs and lost his effortless flow and his rhyming ability seemingly from HNIC to Infamy.


Prime P could have went at at Jay and held his own no doubt, for some reason though that P who went at Jay was a shell of his former self.
