Great writer. not the best singer or anything, but he has a knack for making classic ballads. Mostly hated by people who confuse pop with RnB, think jodeci invented RnB, and are scared Earth Wind and Fire might somehow make them gay

Loved the first album but that shyt was kind of limited musically. He was clearly writing to be somebody he wasn’t on some fake RnB “bad boy” shyt that was already run into the ground. Considered a classic, but it’s hard to listen to now. It’s definitely stuck in the time it was released, sound and theme wise.

Once Again was a straight up timeless classic. He was being himself and just made an album full of great relatable music. shyt anybody who loves music in general can appreciate years into the future. Definitely my favorite. Good soul music.

Evolver was fun, colorful, full of pop, but didn’t seem focused

Wake up was kind of a let down but I appreciate what him and the roots

Love in the future was another that was musically great, but a little too long. usually unappreciated by people who never sat through it, but they end up enjoying a lot of it. Good solo road trip album with.

Overall I’m glad he decided to make music. He’s a good balance to the flavor of the month fake RnB thugs. The same nikkas that dislike him will cry about RnB being dead, when they don’t support classical soul/rnb music.

I dislike him so much, I tried to bait him into a fight one time at a club eons ago.

Bumped into him super hard, he was one some "whats your problem buddy, sheesh" under his breath.

That was beyond stupid of me in hindsight but its still f john legend tho

He was good in the beginning and kinda fell into the okay zone for an artist. I don’t go out of my way to listen to John Legend but I’m not annoyed when his music comes on.

I do think he be doing too much on hip hop hooks at times. Ross’ Rich Forever and Nipsey’s Higher come to mind.

I'm one of the ppl who hated his first album. I thought it was very gimmicky. I thought the 2nd album was excellent. It was so different.

I haven't bought an album since then but I think he's talented

He was fine in his early music career but eventually became the Ed Sheeran of R&B: just stale radio music for soccer moms.

Even at his prime, though, John wasn't really top tier or anything. He had great production and a fine enough tone that was enjoyable but he was basically always just a more diet/watered down version of the type of Neo-Soul/R&B that was coming out of the Soulquarian movement. His first 2 albums will always have a place in heart though.
