Because if Slim Shady knows two things in life it’s how to diss his baby-mama and how to do a rap battle.
“You better lose yourself in the music, the moment. You own it, you better never let it go.” So said the greatest poet of our time, otherwise known as Eminem. Or The Real Slim Shady if you feel like pissing him off.
Which you probably don’t want to do now (or ever – he’s mental), because then you wouldn’t get the chance to partake in the rapper’s new project – a competitive rap battle league, which is to be called ‘Total Slaughter’, with the first event to be held at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom in July. Aside from the fact that this sounds suspiciously like the name of a WWE wrestler, the idea is that the programme will raise battle rapping’s profile. And if we learnt anything from 8 Mile, apart from the fact that we should never, ever go to Detroit, it’s that Eminem used to be partial to the odd bit of rap battling.
However, for those who looking forward to stepping back in time and seeing Jimmy ‘B-Rabbit’ Smith take to the stage once more, I’m afraid you’ll be bitterly disappointed. Pete Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager has confirmed that the rapstar will not be getting into the ring himself: “I don’t think at this point it would make any sense. They know everything about him. Everything. So, he’s kind of an easy target. Plus, lets be honest, you gotta be in shape for this. This isn’t something that you just go do on a whim. You gotta be in shape, your brain’s gotta be ready for it, you gotta be in that mode. And Marshall hasn’t done stuff like that for a really long time.”
Instead artists like Joe Budden, Hollow Da Don, Murda Mook and Loaded Lux are lined up to take part, and if more than one of those names means something to you then congratulations – you’ve won yourself an oversized hoody and gold chain.
So if you fancy the prospect of watching someone ‘choke’ live on stage in New York then make sure you watch the whole sorry affair on 12th July online at hip-hop website
