I grew up roasting all through middle school and high school. It died down a lot my senior year. Probably be mfs would roast non stop our Jr year. This was the year that lookin ass nikka song by hotsyles came out. This had to be the peak roasting era

Roasting is literally our culture. You got roasted for anything and everything and it made you stronger. Stayed roasting my ugly ass ET looking cousins

I went to High School in the late 2000s and nikkas didn't really roast like that, now middle school on the other hand



I remember this dark skin nikka getting roasted by another kid saying you can't see him when you turn the lights off the kid kept turning the lights on and off too Yeah looking back it was kinda c00nish but it was funny as hell at the time



When nikkas would have a straight up roast battle would have me cracking up



I remember when some nikka roasted me for having highwater jeans in the baggy jeans era

You so black in the dark, you needed to smile for us to see you. The person getting roasted had to laugh..

Used to get in fights every day because cats thought I was an easy target....dark-skinned, glasses, liked to read, etc.

They found out I wasn't. Even had teachers laughing at them and our gunning sessions in lunch period were EPIC!!!

Don't EVER try and roast someone with a large vocabulary.

I get it, especially the c00nery with roasting another black person just for being dark skinned.

In hindsight roasting fell into two camps; the light hearted jokes about each other that were never with any malice - these were the ones that had known limits, like you wouldn’t roast about a disability or anything like that. The other was just an avenue for people to just be super saiyan haters and c00ns under a thin guise of joking.

I remember brehs got on my ass about being fat. I told one dude he was one hard sneeze away from needing to wear a helmet to school and told another breh who got held back that if he fails again he’s gonna be in the same class as his nieces and nephews. Suddenly they wanted to fight me

Might be a darwin-esque thing though, roasting/talking shyt as a youngin supposed to give you tough skin. If it affects you that much you just wasn't meant to be competitive in nature. Essentially you're a beta male, which is ok, but when you think you deserve the shyt alphas get/things they do that's when you have mental health issues.

There’s a lot of people I bump into, from school, that have not gotten over some stuff people said. Like they’re mad or sound messed up about that stuff now. I have even had to apologize to some people that I roasted/blaze before (people I bumped into in my 20’s). I gave words of encouragement to folks and told them it was terrible kids stuff (this happened mid 20’s). I know everyone handle things differently , so I’m sure this is true. Running across those people, later in life, made me really see how fukked up I was.

I was talking with my wife a few days ago. Me and my boys in highschool would roast all day long. I became a sniper with the jokes because of it to this day. The thing is not everyone equipped mentally to take it as jokes and end carrying it into they adult life. Some carry it so heavy they end up snappin in the worse way.

like they can tell stories about shyt that happened in 8th grade.
somehow holding on to those emotions.

I barely remember that shyt.

once you grow up you realize a lot of those people were straight up losers.
we grow up around chaos and think its normal.
