i was never with roasting/playing the dozens/joning because inevitably shyt becomes personal and/or it becomes a way for nikkas to try and establish a hierarchy by degrading those they are threatened by

"Roasting" stems from a lack of compassion and we seem to have compassion for everyone else except each other.

there's levels to this baggin shyt. it definitely helps sharpen your wit and can help develop a healthy sense of self (not taking yourself too seriously) but some dudes was hating low key and some of the shyt we said was c00nish.

I remember I tried to line myself up and fukked up and nikkas said my hairline look like a upside-down parabola.

there also times when a crew will play favorites. one dude says something and it's

then you say some shyt thats just as potent and it's . that's when you realize nikkas aint really fukking with you like that lol

plus as schools get more integrated it's looking kinda c00nish on some buck fighting shyt. nikkas roasting each other to the amusement of messicans, whites, and asians. not a good look

He talks about going home and feeling insecure about being roasted then extrapolates that into some theory about everyone else like we're all the same. I never took any jokes seriously, and now as an adult, I actually find it hard to be friends or speak casually with someone who doesn't have a sense of humor about themselves.

Its framed as a youth culture aspect to toughen you up but it also amplifies your insecurities and makes you hyper aware of your flaws which is not exactly a healthy mindset to have as an impressionable minor.

A lot of the stuff we do as kids is toxic or unhealthy in some manner

Lack of compassion is a bit of a reach in a lot of contexts

Roasting amongst best friends can be some of the GOAT experiences, and can also be formative

There are plenty of friends that's were off point that got roasted into introspection and improvement

Not everyone knows how to roast. And that shyt was really like walking in a minefield if you didn’t know the other person that well.

If the other person was much higher on the social food chain than you then they could say some extremely weak shyt and they would get the “ooooooooh” instead of you because everyone else wanted to stay cool with that person.

Also some people, you can only go so far because you know if you hurt their feelings legit they gonna be ready to fight. One nikka got on my nerves so bad I basically said all the shyt everyone else was too scared to say knowing full well I need to be prepared to fight this nikka. I legit planned how I was gonna slip his right and catch him with a left hook before the words left my mouth. In the end he took the easy way out and pretended he didn’t hear what I said.
