Me and my friends roast each other still and we been friends for like 20+ years

TBH sometimes its good you might say or do some wild shyt and its like...aight you know what, maybe ya'll right

I get it, especially the c00nery with roasting another black person just for being dark skinned.

In hindsight roasting fell into two camps; the light hearted jokes about each other that were never with any malice - these were the ones that had known limits, like you wouldn’t roast about a disability or anything like that. The other was just an avenue for people to just be super saiyan haters and c00ns under a thin guise of joking.

I remember brehs got on my ass about being fat. I told one dude he was one hard sneeze away from needing to wear a helmet to school and told another breh who got held back that if he fails again he’s gonna be in the same class as his nieces and nephews. Suddenly they wanted to fight me

Repped. I fukking love this. Number 1, your nuanced understanding between light hearted roasting and maliciousness because there’s definitely a huge difference. And number 2, the actual roasts you delivered on those people were on point. Remind me not to ever get on your bad side.

Not everyone knows how to roast. And that shyt was really like walking in a minefield if you didn’t know the other person that well.

If the other person was much higher on the social food chain than you then they could say some extremely week shyt and they would get the “ooooooooh” instead of you because everyone else wanted to stay cool with that person.

Also some people, you can only go so far because you know if you hurt their feelings legit they gonna be ready to fight. One nikka got on my nerves so bad I basically said all the shyt everyone else was too scared to say knowing full well I need to be prepared to fight this nikka. I legit planned how I was gonna skip his right and catch him with a left hook before the words left my mouth. In the end he took the easy way out and pretended he didn’t hear what I said.

So learn to roast and fight and people will leave you alone

This is one of the major traumas from school that many people have not gotten over going into adulthood.

That trauma carries right over into flexing culture.

I Generally left people alone and only roasted people who roasted me. DId a few people catch strays over the years from me that didn't deserve it, of course! THat's the point of being kids, forgiving the people that hurt you cuz you did the same to someone else and you jjust give everyone a pass from all the shyt that happened before you were 18

I guess it’s all context. We would roast all day long, on the way to school, at lunch, on the way home, but it was all in fun. It was also certain unspoken rules at that time too though. I’ve given a person my hand me down clothes and we’d be cappin on each other and I’d never bring that part up. Everyone I see from that era it’s love til this day. Even got a few at our old age will still go a few rounds when we around each other. I feel like it made me tough skinned and quick witted.

Depends. Ppl have different temperaments. Some respond well and become more resilient. Others take it to heart and start believing that they're inherently messed up.

Wierdos who couldn't hang, been phased out, roasting was a good way to filter out the insecure ones
