I remember my grandma got me some cool nikes at the time. I wore them to school with a quickness. Turns out those fukkers was fake. Instead of Nike air those shyts said air bear. I was too excited to notice. My ass got chewed out the whole day even teachers laughing. I became a man that day.

There’s a lot of people I bump into, from school, that have not gotten over some stuff people said. Like they’re mad or sound messed up about that stuff now. I have even had to apologize to some people that I roasted/blaze before (people I bumped into in my 20’s). I gave words of encouragement to folks and told them it was terrible kids stuff (this happened mid 20’s). I know everyone handle things differently , so I’m sure this is true. Running across those people, later in life, made me really see how fukked up I was.

I've come to see roasting as a whole different thing as I got older.

Some folks who's whole MO is roasting are low key boring af.

In contrast I'd say some of the most talented/brilliant people I've met aren't that naturally funny.

At the end of the day there are cats who do fly shyt then there are many cats who like to crack jokes on them.

It's like you got artists and you got critics. Talented people tend not to actually roast someone at what they do, they tend to constructively critique it instead.

They may be hilarious, but a lot of folks resort to roasting because they ain't got it like that (it may low key be a defense mechanism).

Roasting is different from straight-up bullying and at least in my high school, that barely happened. Middle school, I was the one bullied and hated every minute of that shyt. I picked a school far as shyt to get away. Funnily enough I would see one or some of those kids that bullied me in middle school, as I got older and we became cool from a combination of me realizing it's not a big deal (I was doing alright in high school) and that them feeling some remorse.

In high school, I wasn't bullied and was fairly known, but I usually weeded that shyt out when I saw other try that shyt. "Yo, leave him alone, come on bro." I'll never respect that shyt.

Roasting... whole different story. It's a bunch of kids from different hoods coming together and trying to defend themselves while getting to know each other. We never went far because we always understood it was just jokes. Whenever someone took it far, dudes always looked at that person different. You know the type, the "I get more money" cornballs-- same dudes that would try to play you in front of a chick. Those guys were usually insecure, but most of the time everyone would have a good time. I don't think there's anything wrong with roasting and confusing it with bullying is plain wrong.

In the past. Got roasted for being dark-skinned, African/Nigerian, being “poor”. Obsessivly was into academics, fitness, fashion, skincare; so yea at one point of my life I was insecure. But glad I went through it.

I'm cool with roasting as long as its in jest but, alot of people use it as a cover to disrespect people.

The absolute worst are the types who would try to go extra hard when women were around.

A close second are the types who are always trying to roast people but, get extremely butthurt and cant take someone talking about them.

Because of these experiences, as an adult I have little tolerance, I check it immediately when it gets to a certain point

I get it, especially the c00nery with roasting another black person just for being dark skinned.

In hindsight roasting fell into two camps; the light hearted jokes about each other that were never with any malice - these were the ones that had known limits, like you wouldn’t roast about a disability or anything like that. The other was just an avenue for people to just be super saiyan haters and c00ns under a thin guise of joking.

I remember brehs got on my ass about being fat. I told one dude he was one hard sneeze away from needing to wear a helmet to school and told another breh who got held back that if he fails again he’s gonna be in the same class as his nieces and nephews. Suddenly they wanted to fight me

Back in Middle and High School we would roast each other all day. We would have roasting sessions at school and it got to the next level when Nextel Chirps came aboard. We would chirp random people and would start roasting them, shyt was mad funny.
