AUSTIN, Texas — Around midnight on February 27, Austin Police say a man approached a couple in their car in the parking lot of the Walmart at 710 E. Ben White and asked for a ride home. When they refused, police say the man, identified as 31-year-old Jacob Robert Vasquez, flashed a black-handled revolver in the waistband of his pants.

According to an affidavit, Vasquez told the couple to "play it off" :comeon: as other customers walked by. He then displayed the gun and told the couple they were going to take him home.

Police say Vasquez told the couple to put their belongings in the trunk. Fearing for their lives, they complied. Vaquez then put items from his own shopping cart in the backseat. He then got in the backseat and directed them to drive to an area unfamiliar to them.

The couple told police Vasquez offered them drugs and smoked from a glass pipe while they drove, eventually directing them to a home Vasquez claimed was his friend's. :what:The couple believed Vasquez was high.

The report states that Vasquez opened the rear door, threw his items out of the car into the driveway, and slammed the door. When the driver commented on the loudness of the door slamming, Vasquez pressed the gun against his neck and ask him if he wanted to die. Vasquez then demanded he drive again.

Police say a short time later, Vasquez made them stop the car, get out, and give him their cell phones and wallets. Vasquez told them both to walk straight down the road, then drove off in their car. The couple called police and described the incident.

Around 10:00 p.m. the next day, police responded to the 7-Eleven at 6306 Manchaca Road after a 9-1-1 call from the owner, who said a male, later identified as Vasquez, was in the store claiming to have a concealed carry permit. The owner said he believed Vasquez was high, and he flashed a gun in his waistband.

Officers detained Vasquez and took his gun. When officers ran the license plates on the car Vasquez was driving, they found it matched the car stolen from the coiple the night before.

Vasquez is charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first degree felony.
